I used that same analogy recently and I really believe it. Between our own in fighting, what looks to me like a Chinese Cultural Revolution that ends badly and China right there to pick up the pieces, quite the irony there I would think, I think the decline officially begins. States like California, already losing it's tax base as is New York, will now be overrun with "legal" immigrants ending up with no middle class, only the very rich in Pelosi like compounds and millions of street people wondering around like in the zombie movies.


I see on the news a Mexican smuggler walking with 4 children under the age of 10 and when border patrol starts approaching, he flees, leaving the children wet and bewildered.


Our new immigration policy says that no un-accompanied child can be detained much less deported so take a guess as to who our new arrivals will be and 30 to 40% of them come with Covid.


Yeah, this is all going to work out just fine.


AND I repeat, nobody should get a dime of money that didn't personally lose a job, or a business owner that lost a business and can prove the lose was do to government orders to shutdown.


Rome may have suffered through a devastating plague but that isn't why it fell and I doubt history will record our fall because of a pandemic, it will be because stupidity.


And anybody that thinks this Democrat party is going to stop this fall instead of accelerate it, is naive at best.


So yeah, how about in 2024 we pick a real fiscal Conservative with no concern what so ever over gender issues in Pakistan for God's sake.

Can I kindly ask a simple question.... The orange cheeto cut taxes, created a large deficit during a booming economy, wouldnt let the fed raise interest rates and tweeted daily how great he was at running the USA according to the DOW.

Why did none of you care when he did it, not one mention of debt ceiling, no government shut down talk.... Why is it ok for the GOP to overspend and run up the deficits, but as soon as democrat comes in, its tighten the wallet, no spending, bad democrats and debt ceilings, government shut downs.... we did this already for 6 years of Obama's terms.

The too big to fail socialist republicans, event 1, george w bush and now event 2 with donald trump... pumping dollars into businesses and into the economy to prevent a total collapse. You Republicans cheer these Socialist leaders on blindly because Fox News says to.

Obama had 2 years to ban your guns, and he didnt... he went with universal Romney Care for all...

There's plenty of hypocrisy to go around among the Democrats. Chris Hayes, Rachel Maddow, Joy Reid, Anderson Cooper, Don Lemon, and even Fareed Zakaria can be just as biased as the people at Fox. Same with the deficit. As WTF has wisely pointed out, when you put one party in control of the presidency, Senate and House, the spending goes crazy. So why wasn't Obama out of control for 6 years of his presidency? Why was it only two years? Because Democrats didn't control both the House and the Senate during those 6 years.

If President Trump wanted taxpayers to pony up to help people put out of work or kicked out of their homes because of Covid, that would make sense. But his threat today that he'll veto the stimulus bill unless the government pays $2,000 to everyone regardless of employment status or need reeks of DPST* socialism. It was painful watching Rand Paul and Marsha Blackburn on Fox this morning trying to defend Trump. They rightly pointed out that Congress shouldn't be passing bills with lots of pork for things like museums when many Americans are on their knees. But they insisted on dancing around the real reason that Trump's threatening a veto. It's because he's a Democrat. He's working with the same playbook as Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer. The $2000 was originally their idea.

Then there's the defense bill, that Trump actually vetoed today, because it didn't include a provision to repeal a law that shields internet companies from liability for what's posted on their websites by third parties. That's a big make-work handout to the trial lawyers. And who's the great friend of the plaintiffs lawyers? The Democratic Party of course. And Donald Trump's a good friend too. Before he became president he loved to sue people.

Finally there are other considerations from the past. The massive campaign contributions to Democratic Party politicians. Trump's support of a wealth tax and partial birth abortion. His membership in the Democratic Party. And more recently, proposing to increase the top marginal federal tax rate on Americans to 47.8% as a part of his 2017 tax bill.

I don't understand why most of the esteemed left-of-center posters here hate Trump. Donald Trump is a great friend to the Democratic Party, and his latest antics appear to be a ploy to lose the Georgia Senate elections and turn all the levers of the federal government over to Biden, Schumer and Pelosi.

I'm running down a list of the wealthiest Americans. Without them, or in a couple of cases a father or a husband, there would be no Amazon, no Tesla, no Space X, no Microsoft, no Facebook, no Google, No Oracle, No Walmart, no Koch Industries anywhere near the size it is today, no Dell computer, and no Apple Computer. They've brought a lot of jobs and prosperity to America. They're very smart, driven, hard working people who pay much, much more than their fair share of taxes.

It's the politicians and some of the bureaucrats who are the puppet masters. They control us. We are their slaves.

Yes, What are we doing wasting 10 million on gender programs in Pakistan? What are Congressional leaders doing unleashing a 5000 or 6000 page piece of legislation on members at the last minute? So they can, as Nancy Pelosi famously said, pass the bill so they can know what's in it?

We both decry waste. And many Americans could use more money. But think about the numbers. Say 250 million Americans qualify for a $2000 payment. That's $500 billion! That's almost the entire federal deficit in a good year. I don't agree with you that Trump is a democrat now. Trump was a democrat twenty years ago. He even invited Bill and HRC to his wedding to Melania. If Trump was a democrat now he would not have tried to repeal the ACA. He would not have lowered the corporate tax rate fifteen percentage points. Trump is definitely more right of center than left of center. Trump may not be as conservative as Senator Ted Cruz but he is no democrat.
