Music..now and then..what are your favorite

On Jay Mohr's podcast I've heard several top musicians say Bonn Scott was the best front man ever.

I too loved Van Halen, Van Hagar not so much.

Speaking of Van's, how about Van Morrison. That's some loving music, and he's just the right amount of insane to be genius.

If any of you Buffalonians have stories of the Icon, I'd love to hear them. I've heard some terrifying things about persons formerly associated with the place. PM if you wish, mum's the word of course.
Well my all time favorite is ZZ Top.....all of it....from First Album to La Futura...Just an awesome mix of brute force, nasty tone, and a bit of humor....

My tastes can run the gamut...lately I've been on a Gabriel era Genesis binge, and earlier Pink Floyd is always a favorite.....

I also love the rootsy stuff like the Allmans and Skynyryd, bot new and old....

There are some awesome ladies out there making music.....Melissa Etheridge, Paula Cole, and of course.....Stevie Nicks....

seems like most newer stuff produced after about 1992 kinda leaves me cold.....though one sneaks through now and then....

Artists with local connections like Foriegner and the Goo Goo Dolls are enjoyed....

Soo much good stuff around I know I missed more than a few favorites....

Some nice new posts!!! Ok you guys helped me think of an older song list now..

1. Payolas- never said I loved you
2. Led Zeppelin - I got a woman
3. Rough trade - high school confidential
4. Rolling stones- emotional rescue, beast of burden
5. Jimi Hendrix- little wing

It is tough to only select a few..

I'm a big fan of rock bands from the 70's and 80's, especially Blue Oyster Cult (I have one of their songs as my ringtone). I also really like Genesis, mainly because my Dad's a big fan so I heard a lot of their songs growing up. Originally Posted by MC

I don't stay current with music, something I'm actually proud of. I like Jason Isbell's Elephant.

It is so hard to respect music and narrow it down to 5 of anything. I'm trying to learn guitar...seven years in and I can almost find the strings, I'm that crippled...but for every great I think of, ten supremely talented artists come to mind. Then I realize that hacks like KidRock and Beyonce make all the money and a few days later I stop crying.

I've heard, recently, great musicians put forth the proposition that Prince, the Artist formerly known as, is silently one of our times greatest talents. I just want your extra time Frankie.

I love that you put James Brown out there. I can't go to five, but Bob Dylan is one of mine, as an artist. No albums, no bands.

I couldn't pick a 10k .maniacs song out of a line-up, but Tigerlily is one of my favorite albums, solo Merchant.

The Grateful Dead wouldn't be one of my bands, but there are a few live recordings of theirs I've listened to consistently for decades. Jerry Garcia artist #2.

John Fogerty #3.

But what about Miles Davis? Reginald Dwight? Linda Ronstadt? Joe Walsh? John Coltrane?

And people flock to NBC over hacks like SeeLow and Adam Levine. Time for a cry. Thanks for sharing. So much good music, so little vinyl. Originally Posted by JohnnyCap

I now enjoy what sounds good to me no matter, yet I would have to honestly admit that I have no clue what is a truly genius execution of music. Raised by listening not playing music. I have massive respect for artists who use music as their medium it is a gift others have that I appreciate being able to enjoy!

John Fogerty -centerfield, is a major fav for me !!

Speaking of Prince, I've been listening to this a lot lately:

Point is, I'll always have a special affinity to that song not necessarily because it is a great song but because it was playing during a very memorable moment. I cannot hear the song without a pleasant memory. That's a good thing.

I think I'll dedicate today to her. She might have been out there but she wasn't after money.
Uriah Heap - Demons and Wizards

Steppen Wolf - Born to be Wild

Iron Butterfly - in a gadda da vida
10,000 Maniacs? Since Natalie Merchant left it's now the 9,999 Maniacs. I like Robert Smith with the Cure & Crystal Castles, and I'm NOT Goth.
Listening to The Cure is often Just Like Heaven......

And I don't like Mondays... but I do like the Boomtown Rats.....
