The dog was fine but she felt better having him checked out by a vet and good Lawd that woman was hot... So then I paid for dinner and drinks. Tapped that ass for a good 7 months and when she'd come over, she would cuddle with the wiener dog on the couch. Funny how things work out.

Never, never, never, don't ever bring a dog on a leash into a dog park. If he can't be trusted off-leash not to attack and injure another dog who is also off leash then don't take him. In fact you might need to consider putting him down.
You were in the wrong and someone should have called you on it as soon as you entered. I've had to do that when some dumb ass brings their dog inside the fence on-leash. Then they get all defensive trying to tell me what a bad ass their dog is. The dogs can figure out who the bad ass is without any help from us and most times with very little aggression. There's a reason most modern dog parks have a leashing area with two gates. Think about it.
All those dogs running free and yours is restrained. WTF? He feels vulnerable and WILL be aggressive and defensive because of it. Turn him loose and he becomes one of the pack. Dogs off leash will always work their differences out and usually without vet bills.

The only problem with having a GOOD dog is when you eventually have to put them down.....Something good inside you will die with them.

It wasn't really a "dog park". I guess I should have worded that better. It was a park that allowed you to bring your dog but all dogs at this park were supposed to be on leashes. It was more setup like Memorial Park. No fences or anything like that. Just open space and trails n shit... And those little spots every 100 yards or so with pooper scooper bags. At the time, my backyard basically ran up to the park. I would take the dogs for walks all the time. They have no problem staying next to me but when someone else's dog runs up, that's not my problem. She was in the wrong, plain and simple. No dogs were allowed off of their leash. But no, I would have never brought my aggressive wiener dog to a park where there are free roaming dogs. That's asking for trouble.

As for putting a dog down, I have never had to do it. The only other dog I ever owned was another wiener dog and he lived to be 16. Got him when I was 5 and he died in his sleep at my parents house while I was away in college. The 2 I have now are 5 yrs old and are inseparable so my only worry is what happens when one has to live without the other.

I will share a very personal moment. When my oldest dog basically started dying in my arms I cried like a baby. I spent nearly 10K trying to save her life and was about to send her in a heavily medicated and comotose state to Texas A&M neurologists. My vet who been with her from the very beginning sat me down and told me that even if she survived she wouldn't know who she was and quality of life would be severely diminished. He advised I put her down. He started the poison that stopped her heart beat she stopped breathing and that was it. He allowed me to say my final goodbyes for however long I needed. I went home and lost it. My surviving dog who I always imagined would go first came over to me as I was balling and layed in my arms as to comfort me. It really gave me a different perspective of animal intuition.

Depends what you want in a dog. A dog that is good with your family, or a dog that is aggressive and may turn on you, attack other dogs or people.

I have had two English Pointers and now have an English Springer Spaniel. The pointers were great with my children. The Springer is great with my grandson.

I have seen pit bulls, rots and German shepherds attack other dogs and people. Dachshunds and Chihuahuas are typically not friendly and bite. Cocker Spaniels have been so inbred, you may get a good one land you may get a totally FUBAR one, as I did.

Partial to the Catahula Curr myself dont have the time or energy for them anymore though Had eleven of them we used to hunt hogs...

Love my Siberian Husky. He's a big goofball, but stays indoors most of the day during the hot months. When it freezes or is super cold, it's hard to get him to come inside. He is defnitely a pack animal. He thinks that munchkins that are half his size are for pile-sleeping.

Curr dogs are some bad asses when it comes to baying up a hog. They are relentless, quick and the way they work together is something to see. That same attitude got their asses kicked a time or two when they decided to run a coyote instead of a hog. You could hear the fights for miles. It would tale several days to round up 8 or 9 dogs and everyone of them would need some form of medical attention. Salve, stitches, antibiotics. We mostly did that ourselves. Coyote single handedly whipped all their asses.

I work closely with a few rescues here in Houston. Rescue and shelter dogs are amazing companions. If anyone is ever interested in adopting or even fostering please let me know.
