Why do some of you get in such a tizzy if something steers off topic in a thread like you are the forum police? Funny the moderators are not the ones who say anything about steering off topic usually.. I get you should stay on topic in general but.. all worked up over a thread.

What is the big deal? Enlighten me? its a forum board.. Its recreation and for info not to get scolded like your 12 because you went a little off topic.


Ive been a part of forum boards over the years and never seen so much whining because something steers off topic.. Specially ones that are not even serious.. its posted for curiosity, info, and fun. Get a grip and worry about your own life and not if a thread goes off topic.. I think some great stuff has come from steering in a new direction..

We should be serious about alerts and discussions on a serious nature pertaining to someones well being or safety.. the rest is fun.

I used to be a volunteer forum mod for an e-tail company I did some freelance work for. This board is pretty tame as far as the interaction between posters and people going off track. Except for maybe the world wide section, that can get a little heated and go off on wild tangents. The politics section of ASPD was something nasty as most political discussions are.

Anyway, this topic made me think of a funny story about that afore mentioned e-tail company. Their catalog had an adult products sub-category which was naturally a private section of the site. Until they introduced a newest product added showcase to the front page. Graphic pictures of porn video box cover art displayed for all to see right next to children's books. As a mod my inbox was of course overloaded with PMs from forum members. Oh what fun that was.

we ask that threads stay on a course for ONE reason.. when you start a thread, you give it a title.. a title that indicates to others what it may be about and then they can decide if they wish to read it or not...
If a thread gets off topic, for example has a title of "popcorn" and it has reponses all talking about popcorn, but then there is one lone soul who wants attention.. and in that thread he talks about ... lets say... "raspberries" and from there on out the thread becomes a discussion on raspeberries and all their delightfulness.. well then becasue of the title "popcorn" you are depriving all of those who may like raspberries of getting their fair share of the discussion.... make sense now? school lesson for the day is now over... move on to phys ed class... play well with the other children or go to detention...
