Participating in hobby discussions in a positive way also helps put yourself out there.

I don't think older providers should retire - there will ALWAYS be a niche market for them to make money and have fun!

I never give providers advice on what to do with their money, life etc. as it is not my place. However, If I am asked or the conversation should evolve into that I do offer friendly opinions.

That said, ANY provider here - younger or older should have a "plan" - I'm sure the money can be great for a while - but spending it foolishly is not a good thing. Always best to have a part-time RW job ideally one with healthcare benefits...i.e. Starbucks, Costco etc...and provide on the side. Or if providing is the full-time gig make sure you stash enough for rainy days.

OP - I don't know you but don't pay any attention to negative guys - keep your regulars and just get a part-time RW job...just my .2 cents..
One should play the game smart, start when you are young(er), saving for the future. @ the very least have a retirement plan with Edward Jones, or some other company, since there is no 401k for providing.

Ladies think they will last forever in this business, but let's face it there is always a newer model car to take your place.

A woman has to develop a good solid reputation on here for her business, and create a board persona that draws people to want to see her....

It is never good to wait until you get old(er) to decide to plan. There is no easy way around the subject.

Plan, plan, plan A,B,C, and if those don't work, well then Re- plan....lol

Some people post here seeking genuine help or advice, others, such as this Op are looking for a handout without having to lift a finger to help themselves. She's been crying broke here forever and yet to do something for herself. After you've hit your head on the doorway enough times most people learn to eventually duck.
I figure by the time I'm old enough to retire, it will be Mad Max times, so what's the point? Originally Posted by OneStarLuck07

There are obvious reasons why the client pool shrinks as a provider gets older. If you look at those providers that continue to thrive as they age, the common traits appear to be: 1) hobby income suppliments RW income, and/or 2) manages to live within means or better, 3) can string sentences together in casual conversation, thereby providing an experience that goes beyond just BCD. Sometimes that matters.

So, the OP didn't follow the path of the successful older providers and is too old to be high volume, is about to be homeless, and doesn't appear to have a RW backup plan. I see no point in criticizing her now. You can't change your past, so conversations about what she should have done are moot. Here's the advice I would give, same as I give the college graduate who can't find a job in their chosen field:

1) Look hard for job
2) Accept employment anywhere you think you can do a good job
3) Do a great job, regardless of what it is.
4) The rest will likely take care of itself.
5) If you stay in the hobby, use it as a supplement, maybe even be the "younger" Sherry.

I haven't gotten a job since the age of 24 by sending a resume, or applying for a job. Every job after that came from people who saw me work. Once you start a new chapter, no one gives a shit about the old ones, so start a new one. All that matters is what you do in the new one. I have a graduate degree and I've cleaned toilets and mopped up puke for a living and I did it well.

People too often believe that minimum wage jobs are not worthy of consideration. But, assistant managers often started out flipping burgers, and managers used to be assistant managers. Hitting bottom doesn't mean you have to stay there. I've been there myself.
Yes, the younger girls need to be aware of this situation and think ahead in a very focused manner.

All this reminds me of the scene with Jamie Curtis in Trading Places:

"The only thing I got going for me in this world is this body, this face .... and what I've got up here (as in smarts).
I've saved 42 gran and it's in T-Bills earning interest ...I figure I got 3 more years on my back and then I will have enough to retire".

Part of the dilema is that Women don't reach their sexual prime until their 40s.

This makes for a very good time to be in the business but squirming to plan retirement.

There is no reason a lady in her 50s should feel washed up.
She just needs to get more self-reliant because at this age, our experience can serve as money makers in many ways.

At 55 years old, you don't have a contingency plan? I don't give a shit how fit you may think you are. You're 55 fucking years old in hooker age. So in RL years, you're probably 65 years old.

I'm not trying to be an asshole, but get a customer service job or something and be a provider on the side. Go work at Home Depot or something. If being a provider full time is not paying your bills, do something else and provide on the side. You're not getting any younger. Get off your ass and be smart and be realistic. Think hard about your financial future. Originally Posted by Lucas McCain

I agree with those who think she should do it as a side job.

As for T-Bills and investing as referenced in Trading Places and the beautiful JLC, investing can be very complicated, and unfortunately, those who invest for you quite often churn'em and burn'em.

A low cost S & P index fund at Vanguard is likely best for the unsophisticated, at least according to Warren Buffet, the greatest investor ever. Don't expect the mythical 10% per year, though.
