If you can find it, Red Handed is a Texas Whiskey, better than TX and less expensive. Vey smooth and drinkable.

I too enjoyed it, nice change from TX whiskey, I wasn’t a fan of their bourbon. It’s time for another run to Specs... and maybe some Old Grand Dad, super cheap and the spinners who want a buzz can’t tell OGD from Macallans.

I tend to lean on the sweeter side of bourbon. With that said I like to try new ones along the way. Here are a few that I like some have been mentioned and some have not.

Bookers (if you like this Noah’s Mill is good too)
Bakers (same line as Bookers only 107 proof)
Angels Envy
Rock Hill Farms
Black Maple Hill (not sure if you can get this in Texas)

On the more rare side:
Pappy 20 (preferred over even the 23yr)
George T Stagg (very high proof)
Parker’s Bros 27yr

I almost forgot to mention Witherspoon (located in Lewisville, TX. and owned by a fellow Marine)

My favorite seems to alternate between Crown Royal and Jack Daniels. I have tried others but always come back to those two

If you ever get confused on what you want a particular time, just pick up a bottle of Jack along with anything else, and it's a good shopping day.

And those BYOB nudie bars - take that bottle of Crown in with ya' - the chicks are drawn to it like moth's to a bright light.

Since it’s close by and I was assured over the phone they had some Blanton’s, I decided to stop in Total Wine in West Plano. A bit disappointed in their selection as well as them NOT having any Blanton’s. If you’re looking for a good selection of rye whiskey, they do have that. I figured while I was there, might as well get something.
Been wanting to try Makers 46 and they had a “small bottle” of it. Grabbed that. I had read about Redempttion Wheated in one of those, “Best new bourbons of 2017” articles. They had some on hand, so I grabbed a bottle.
I really like the Redemption Wheated. Nose is a very nutty vanilla. When it first hits your mouth, you get more of a dry vanilla and a bit of mint. The finish is very spicy, but won’t overwhelm you. You think it’s going to be a super long spicy finish, but it sort of fades. Sticks around just long enough to savor.

The Makers 46 apparently is the same recipe as standard Makers, but is aged longer. I definitely can see this as being a go to bourbon for myself. It has sweet flavor but not overly sweet. Cherry, cinnamon, a bit of vanilla. The finish is smooth. Standard Makers, to me has a drier finish than the 46.

I see you're not opposed to spending some extra bucks for the good stuff Dilbert - excellent choice.

A bourbon with a similar story is call Russell's Reserve. They were doing a taste test yesterday at Spec's off 75 in Plano.

It's from the Wild Turkey folks and it's a step up from Wild Turkey in the aging, processing and expanded flavors. A little like the difference between pretty tits and just out of this world tits !

Try the single barrel. It will kick your ass though at 110 proof.

But still, I can't get over the taste of this one. Just really really good:
