This is a horrible tax plan but premiums were going up anyway, with or without it.

Cutting the individual mandate, which was a tax, no matter how President Obama wanted to spin it otherwise, will force congress to address the health issue. That was a big cornerstone in the Affordable Care Act. It wold have reduced the deficit a good amount. Without it Obamacare goes into the toilet.

That is fine and well as it will make congress act to fix our health care system.

At least now you won’t be “taxed” for not buying Obamacare.

At best it's an "offset" against the costs, if any, the government has to pay for the noninsured's health care. If there are any costs to be reimbursed by the government.

The IRS collects it after all, not health & human services.

I don't where the Constitution provides any authority to levy fees except as taxes.

There was no way to sell it as a tax but Obama knew ultimately the supreme court would side with it because it's a tax.

It's constitutional because it's a tax.

"This is a penalty," Patrick said. "It's about dealing with the freeloaders."

If you can afford health insurance but choose not to buy it, you may pay a fee called the individual shared responsibility payment. (The fee is sometimes called the "penalty," "fine," or "individual mandate.")
You apologists will say ANYTHING to make that FOOL look "smart"!

Obama knows that. SCOTUS knows that. The democratic blue dogs couldn't sell a tax in their districts and therefore would not vote for a tax. Semantics.....

How they could sell it as a mandate rather than a tax I don't understand. Money compelled by the government to come out if their pocket no matter what it was called.

People who say Obama wasn't smart seem even less so themselves.

The other problem is that All tax bills must originate in the house, this fee/tax originated in the senate, not the house, that is unconstitutional.
