While I get the sentiment I also kind of feel its the nature of the profession you've chosen. As someone who used to be on-call.. and by on-call I mean I'm on vacation in another land and off in a corner helping a client on 30 seconds notice while the world spins on without me, I get the annoyance. I also get that in every scenario I had two choices: My freedom or my money. I guess its up to each of you to decide what's what for yourselves. Life rarely caters.
Now if we're talking about someone says now and really means in 40 minutes then just talk to each other. Shit's not that difficult.

Or that it's not feasible for you to meet short notice when the guy needs to be screened (you have any idea how long it takes some girls to reply from reference requests?! If at all?!) common sense
It's the issue of wanting to keep the schedule you have flowing...meaning we don't like having to rush anymore than you like being rushed.
Yes, we are "on call" to a point. But when we ask for a TIME we don't want to hear "now". To most of you "now" isn't actually "now" as stated and admitted to in previous replies... To me now is being less than 15min Away... Not the general situation of 20 minutes+. :-( THAT conflicts with other appointments we have booked with people who actually took the time to schedule ahead of time... which is HIGHLY appreciated.
If it's 1pm and you text me asking if I am available, I ask what time and for how long? If you say now I'm going to tell you straight up that now isn't a time, and ask again what time you want to meet until you give me an actual time.(really hate repeating myself)
Because generally, the ones who text me have already met me and know where my incall is and already KNOW how long it will take to get there from wherever they are.... I want to meet as many of you in a day as I can...and until they successfully figure out human cloning... there's only one of me. :-( But it's just not possible without proper scheduling.
Make sense? We just want to ensure that nothing overlaps, you don't feel rushed, and that we don't have to rush.
And I personally don't have the time to just chit chat with someone.
