Biden tried to claim during the Democratic debates that Obama didn't separate children. that of course is wrong, they did. beyond Trump's increased use of this as deterrent for mass waves of illegals trying to come in to the US, overall policy for some time has mandated this and one reason is the safety of the children. to remove them from potential harm by parents suspected of more serious crimes than just illegal entry. another reason why this happened more under Trump is because many people were sending their kids to the border accompanied by adults who were not their parents and thus had no real concern or legal claim for them other than to just drop them off and be done with it. they were paid by the families to do this by the way. otherwise they wouldn't have cared one bit and even still many of these "runners" didn't care anyway.
