As to the numbers on people who have died, those too are suspect for several reasons such as:

1. there is no standard for reporting so people who die WITH covid (for non-covid reasons) are often lumped into stats of people who die FROM covid

2. There are incentives for hospitals to code someone as a Covid death from a reimbursement perspective. The CARES Act created a 20% add-on to be paid for Medicare patients with COVID-19 and to financially assist hospitals at Medicare rates for COVID-related treatment of the uninsured
