Perry proposes mandatory sonograms

I find it amazing how people who haven't put children through school can be so wise when it comes to segregating students, funding education and judging curriculum.

It's easy to criticize and whine about taxes, teachers and textbooks ... until it's your child in question.

What is your answer for solving the problem with education? Let me guess lets just keep giving them more money for the same results.

I am for privatizing the school system to breed competition, or having a voucher system so everyone that actually wants a better education can get it. Originally Posted by Wyldeman30

Hahaha, didn't ya'll's mamas ever tell y'all not to discuss religion or politics in mixed company? What's the ultimate point of having this conversation on a SHMB? There are better platforms to discuss this subject where the women may not be tied to their working names (and thus means of income) so will be in a better position to have a discussion/debate if that's what you're actually looking for.

Just in case you didn't watch it ... Perry just rejected science in the GOP debate!

This is going to be interesting!

Glad my kids learned BOTH sides of the issues in PUBLIC schools and colleges.

Oh, get over yourself already. Obama graduated Harvard magne cum laude, which means his gpa there was at least 3.8. Do you really expect his Columbia gpa to be any different, and if it was, what would it matter? He still graduated Harvard magna cum laude!

Admit it, you're still looking for his birth certificate too. Originally Posted by F-Sharp

That was the left side of your brain, also known as Yssup. I simply called him on his BS. Both of you can't come up with anything better than "get over yourself" when it comes to the truth of how Obama got into Harvard. You can tell me to get over myself all you want but it doesn't change Obama's own words nor does it explain how he got into Harvard Law with average grades.

Not one of you has explained why, when the U.S. spends more per student than virtually any other country, our children still under perform compared with other countries that spend far less per student on education. If it truly was a money issue then we should be at the top of the world rankings in education. Alas, we're 17th!
Look at some of the school districts across the United States that spend the most per student on education and you'll see that even within the United States they don't rank the highest in Math, Reading or Science. I've posted the $$$$ spent, I've posted the rankings and not one of you (F-Sharp, Yssup ect) can explain why we still perform so poorly DESPITE the massive spending per student.
I've shown where Charter schools are producing higher test scores by their students, while spending HALF the money per student, compared to Public schools in the same area. Yet you want to keep screaming: "It's MONEY. We need more MONEY"!

Yeah Ok. Just like Obama will try to convince us tonight that he needs to spend MORE stimulus money to create more jobs. Because that approach has worked so well the last two times it was tried. LOL!

Tell you what Yssup and F-Sharp, come up with some logical, rational explanations or proof of where it's shown that Money=higher public school test scores and we can talk. Dispute the numbers and figures I've posted in the above link.
Until then, you're talking out of your backsides.
Throwing more money at the school systems is not going to fix the problem. Yes the schools are fucked up and need a new approach to fixing it. Originally Posted by Wyldeman30

BTW, before you guys ask/assume, my zip code and property tax bill has given my children the education that I feel the best I am going to get in public schools for now. Yes, I am one of the lucky ones that could afford to move to get it. I realize most are not as lucky.

Why am I hi-jacking? Because as the lovely Ms. Reya Sunshine pointed out, speaking on these topics in mixed company is a delicate dance. As I have pointed out before a lady must be careful on any date/situation to know the lane to stay in. Politics, abortion and religion are no-no's with me. So therefore that I won't comment on

Carry on....

Miss Ava, as the OP, I for one appreciate any input here from the ladies. Wouldn't dream of holding a lady's political views against her when it comes to her business. Personally I think that's a little ridiculous for anyone to do.
I understand your point about the education but if you read the link I posted, you'll see that we already spend more per student than most nations do yet the quality of our education continues to plummet. So that's why Wyldeman, myself and some others don't feel that it's simply a money issue. If you get a chance, there's an awesome documentary about our education system called "Waiting on Superman". If you get a chance to watch it let me know what you think of it. The documentary makes it pretty clear that it's not the lack of money that's currently plaguing or education system.
I've spent a considerable number of years being educated in the German school system, I've traveled extensively around the world and observed how other countries are addressing their education needs and in my opinion, money is not the issue at this point.
Yssup Rider's Avatar
To say it's strictly a matter od money is a gross oversimplification. To say that slashing funding for education is a remotely plausible solution for our poor education system is likewise.

It's like saying our healthcare system should be the best because we spend so much money on it.

According to what you and --did you actually include Wyldeman in your opinion team? -- American education has a bad case of. GPS.
