Government shutdown

Here you go Gristle. I know you don't get the proper framing here. Maybe this helps:

Look carefully. You will find six (6) specific provisions in the Big Beautiful Bill (aka WFTCA) that, if repealed, would restore healthcare subsidies for illegal immigrants and other non-citizens. You will also see the estimated cost to repeal each and all of them.

Please try to dig a little deeper.

Most of that affects legal aliens you're pretending are illegal

The Healthcare for illegals narrative was debunked, guys

I know. They include legal aliens

You seem to have done the reading, maybe, and missed all the context

In most cases, the hospital. Assuming they aren't able to get payment from the patient.

The cavest is if they're in a state that reimburses out of special state funds and if the care was eligible.

It will also depend on the treatment. This isn't where a pile of federal spending goes.

Dig deeper. Still not something to shut down the government over. Originally Posted by HDGristle

in virtually ALL cases, the goverment pays or reimburses the hospital
When a person without documentation goes to the emergency room, the hospital receives payment through a combination of sources, primarily federal funding under the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA), along with Emergency Medicaid and the hospital's own financial resources, which can include the patient's tax contributions.
Here's a breakdown of how payment works:
EMTALA Mandate
: The Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA), a federal law, requires hospitals that receive Medicare funds to provide emergency care and stabilize any patient in an emergency, regardless of their immigration status or ability to pay.
Federal Reimbursement
: Hospitals are reimbursed by the federal government for these services, primarily through the Emergency Medicaid program.

EMTALA is unfunded Oldman. You're catching up to what I provided in the link above.

Look - If you're a so-called "legal" alien in this country, you're free to buy your own health insurance. If you came here to work or study, you are free to avail yourself of any health insurance provided by your employer or by the college/university you enroll in.

But you should NOT be able to apply for - or receive - free healthcare paid for or subsidized by US taxpayers. That's a benefit you only earn AFTER you become a full US citizen.

In other words: ALL NON-CITIZENS should be barred from Medicare, Medicaid, and Obamacare subsidies. Isn't that what the law already says? Let's stop playing sneaky word games trying to shift immigrants around into new categories in order to give them "Emergency Medicaid" et al. Our healthcare programs are already breaking the federal budget. Every dollar that the Dems siphon out of them and dole out to non-citizens is one less dollar available for our fellow hard-working Americans!

What will the Dems try to get away with next? Will they create a whole new immigrant category, call it "Aspiring Citizens", shove all of Biden's 12-20 million newbies who crashed the border into it, and declare everyone in this new category eligible for free healthcare?

They really think most Americans are too dumb to notice all of their 3-card monte, sleight-of-hand games that keep exploding the deficit and the debt!

Might want to double check some of those contentions. They're not quite right.

Start with the Snopes link. It's more plainly accessible.

Again, none of this is something to shut down the government over. Especially not when the GOP narrative is such easily disprovable bullshit

If you think it's ok to force US taxpayers to pick up the tab for healthcare subsidies for non-citizens, just say so.

The table in post #46 lists 6 programs where that was happening. Republicans repealed them, saving taxpayers an estimated $193 billion. Do you want to restore all or some of them? If so, feel free to justify.
