Qualities Of A Mod?

ANONONE's Avatar
I raised questions....wasn't that the point of this thread, which as I acknowledged, was a good one.

In fact I think it was a good question: 8 Mods?

I thought my poke at you would be treated as good natured "towel slapping" -- I guess I'm not cool enough to do that with you Originally Posted by atlcomedy

It appears that the 'Thick Skin' and 'Sense of Humor' exclusions cover this latest proposal.

Being a mod in several different areas of the board for a short time, I see no need to be local. I do visit each of the areas I moderate on business so I have a basic familiarity of that area's hobby environment. The more important thing from a board perspective to me is to read and understand the personalities in that area. There is plenty of housekeeping to do and I enjoy taking the time to have fun here as well. Isn't that what it's all about?

You ask is 8 too many? No in fact it could be said 8 is not enough given the fact the
Dallas area is the biggest region on this board and us mods arent all sittin around shooting the crap about the topic of discussion for that day.
I have said it numerous times there is so much going on you members of this board cant really know how much stuff that is dealt with constantly all the time.
And the pay sucks .....lol

I mean in Ohio, John Bull does an awesome job. . .of course there are only like 7 or 8 of us to manage, and even though I might be the most wayward child he has to deal with and given, from the perspective of others, that I tend to pee in other pools rather than the local one, he rarely has to correct me. More than anything I wear his eyes out with so many reviews and local report posts, I owe him a few drinks and a steak dinner, even if he shouldn't accept it. I really should try to stick with the waterfalls I know, but being semi-retired I get bored and get stupid and hit the "new post" button, see a title that is intriguing and before i realize it the keyboard is clacking and I am ruffling feathers. I will strive to pull back over the next few weeks.

So how many mods are required at the very hub of this board? How many hands are required to watch over Texas, the nexus of the hobby universe?

Even if there were TEN mods, what would the member to mod ratio be?

Is there a delegation process amongst the mods? Are mods assigned positions, such as review approver, thread closer, points giver, so on and so forth? Or are the mods kinda all doing the same job randomingly within a region?

Does the Dallas Sub-Forum need eight (8) mods? Do they all really contribute something of value as a mod? If you want a 9th, I'm sure ANONONE would be happy to offer his out of town POV.... Originally Posted by atlcomedy

And you know cats. Those little minions from hell are aloof finicky and just plain unpredictable and to be a so called cat herder takes a lot to accomplish

Please do not combine my use of the actual species to members of this board. This post was to self destruct within five minutes of its posting but for some reason my mod powers dont work whatever that is lol

Yes, with the dynamic nature of the threads and topics, tempers will flare and things will become heated from time to time. You may often encounter individuals who become passionate or emotional when expressing one's opinion or point of view. That's all understood and perfectly acceptable within reason…….but, start slamming or bashing another member and be met with consequences.

  • #3 - Disrespect to others, IN GENERAL, will be considered an item of low tolerance, especially when posting in our coed forums. Follow the Golden Rule and treat others as you wish to be treated yourself. This applies to fellow members as well as staff. We do not require that you have respect for us, but we do require that you treat us respectfully in the public forums. If you feel the need to vent, gripe, or blow off some steam regarding a staff member's action or decision, we ask that you keep it private. Email, RTM, or the PM system would be the appropriate avenue to take in such cases. In cases where you would like to request additional clarity about a staff decision, you are free to pursue an answer in either a public forum or private means of communication. If handled publicly, post your inquiry in a respectful manner.

  • #4 - Blatant insults or hostility toward another member will be met with staff intervention. This applies to using our coed forums for name calling, personal attacks, or vulgar slang terms to describe fellow members. If you have legitimate concerns about another member here, share them tactfully in the appropriate private forums or with staff.
  • #6 - Respect the topics presented by those who start a thread. Attempts to derail a thread or change it's direction is referred to as thread hijack and will be discouraged. Attempts to guide a thread in the right direction are appreciated, while responses to posts which hijack a thread are not.
. . .just guessing, but if new mods simply read the guidelines and enforced them without bias or mitigation you might find yourself taking a few short vacations.
