I don't get it.
The information was clearly classified.
He worked in a SECRET area.
He took an oath to protect American secrets.
He handed out the classified information.
Snowden should be tried, convicted and hung as a traitor.

Imprisonment for up to ten years (I think), yes, but not death, by hanging or any other means.
Unfortunately, in order to try him, you generally have to have in your jurisdiction. At the moment, Snowden is out of reach.
Oh, and another thing: To the best of my knowledge, civilians do not take an "oath" to protect American secrets. They sign nondisclosure agreements. The nondisclosure agreements are just to ensure that the government can prove the guy knew he wasn't supposed to divulge the information: his signature on the dotted line proves he knew it.
