Still too early to tell who will emerge as quite a few teams that started 0-2 went to the playoffs. Remember that the Texans a couple of years ago started 2-0 and wound up being 2-14.

Of the last 44 teams to begin the season 0-2 (not counting this current one, natch) only TWO have gone on to make the playoffs.

I think Seattle will take a lotta frustration out on their next two opponents (at home), Chicago and Detroit, and even their record up. Since they don't play their home-away series with divisional rival AZ until after their Bye mid-season, they should be in decent shape by then.

Also, if the Giants have put their 4th quarter guffaws squarely behind them, they have a pretty easy schedule ahead until they see the Pats on Nov 15th. And with all the problems their NFC East rivals currently have, they could move to the lead of that division if they simply take care of business.

As mentioned before, I think the other 0-2 teams have too many other issues to be a factor in the playoff race. Several are going to be 0-3 this weekend and they're pretty much done IMO.

Texans won BUT it was against Tampa which was the worse team in the league last year and in the first game of the year the second worst team of last year ran all over them. If their kicker had not missed so much it would have been tied. BUT Mallett did look a lot better than last week. He threw some very on target passes and the running game looked better. Defense was o.k. but Winston got off a lot of passes and he is just a rookie. When the Texans face better QB they could be in real trouble.

I attended yesterday's Cowboys-Falcons game.....two things:

Simply put, Julio Jones is a major problem (not that that's headline news).

If your front four / five D-lineman can't put consistent pressure on Matt Ryan, no double-triple coverage in the world can stay with Jones....he's too fast, too athletic....too good. He and Ryan have great chemistry. If both stay healthy, they could set some records this season.

Combine that with Devonta Freeman, who can and will run wild if you don't seal the edges (particularly that right side....he loves running to that side.

Keep an eye on ATL....their schedule looks like cake. They don't have any top level NFC teams on their schedule (ie: Seattle, Arizona, Green Bay....) so they won't be seriously tested until the playoffs. Dirty Birds may be flying this year.

Blue getting the yards he did is unbelievable considering the shape of the O-line. Clark did score high at LT according to PFF and the left side looked as sharp and in sync as they have so far. I wonder how much of that had to do with a weak defensive line.

Mallett looked poised and prepared. His passes were crisp and accurate. I thought his best pass was late in the game when they had a long third down and he passed D Hop into a slide which kept him from getting more yards but he got the first down and kept the receiver from taking a hard shot from a safety that would have nailed his ass if he'd gotten the pass in stride. It was basically the same pass as the TD he threw. I just don't understand what they saw in Hoyer. Mallett ain't great but he's clearly the better choice.

The receivers looked more focused for the most part. I still don't know where Washington thought that long ball was coming from. Looked like he was looking for it to fall from the rafters. D-hop missed a couple but one was knocked out and the other would have been a circus catch had he made it. There was a noticeable absence of TE play.

D line looked great. 57 yards rushing and the bucs could get nothing going. Wilfork tied up the interior sometimes taking on two and still got a couple of tackles. They didn't get any sacks but the Bucs obviously game planned to get the ball out quick. Winston had some success early and showed really good accuracy on deep passes. I was impressed with how he played the whole game but he seemed to loose that accuracy as the game wore on and the defense started getting their hands on him a little bit even if it was after he let go of the ball. They got in his head but he's damn sure got an arm. Mike Evans looked like he was catching with velcro.

Clowney keeps playing solid but not making big plays. Seems like they know he can't be blocked straight up so they are scheming him to take him out of the play as easily as possible. He's a little predictable on his rushes but he closes fast on those backside rundowns. He's a first rounder. Solid consistent play is not what we expect from him He's supposed to be a phenom. He's got to put it all together soon and start playing like it.

The other LB's played solid, I don't think anything really stood out good or bad other than what Cushing has possibly lost in a step he still makes up for in tenacity. McKinney may eventually take over his position but it won't be until they cart Cush of the field.

The most improvement was the secondary. They gave up some passes but they defended some they'd been missing in previous games. J-Jo put it together. He scored the highest of any Texan other than Lechler. Johnson continued to shine with some nice defended passes and is showing some nice closing speed. Something Jackson just doesn't have.. It still feels like the corners are out there on an island and the safeties are not providing the over the top help they expect.

Special teams regressed and not just because of fat Randy. Couple of bad decisions fielding punts and not much in the return game. They defended well but there was one punt return that almost got away from them.

Good analysis B'man! I agree with just about everything that you said.

As for Clowney, I am not going to read too much into his progress, or lack thereof. At least, this early in his career! For all intents and purposes, he has played less than half of a season in the NFL. He's still a rookie with only 7 NFL games to his credit.

Comparatively speaking, JJ Watt's stats in his first 7 games were better but JJ did not have a career threatening knee injury to contend with during his rookie year.

Most analyst did not believe there was any way that Clowney would be back in uniform to start this season. In fact a few predicted that he would play very little, if at all (this season). A few short years ago, the injury sustained by Clowney would have probably ended his career before it began.

As far as I am concerned, let's give Clowney a little time. Hopefully, he will eventually develop into a quality NFL player.
