. but you predict that the content itself will factor into the lane speed.

^he meant the repeal of net neutrality. SC supports the Obama-era policy of net neutrality, as do I.

The internet was just fine before net neutrality. It'll be fine afterwards. Net neutrality didn't do squat but give bureaucrats another reason to exist.

Net neutrality doesn't protect anything. Ever wonder what happened before 2015 without it? Look up The Federal Trade Commission Act and Sherman and Clayton acts. There are laws in place already that kept the internet from blowing up before Obama. Even if you can't understand the issue, feel free to use common sense

The sky is not falling. Porn and eccie will continue to thrive. If they get shut down then those of us laughing at the panicking folks will acquiesce but until then...

Internet was not as widespread as before so no use comparing what it was in the 90's vs now. The Internet companies are now fewer, and more content exists plus it's impossible to do much without it, making it almost like a utility. So it needs new rules to level the playing field. People forget that the companies providing Internet were given billions in the bush era so they would expand coverage and they never did. I could go on about it but this is something of the worst things av seen this administration do.

Like I said. Lol.

We're not talking about the 90s. We are talking about prior to 2015. Net neutrality did nothing more than try to create protection that already exists in the form of business stifling government bloat.

It's what Democrats love to do. This net neutrality issue is a straight party line issue if I ever saw one. Might as well try to change someone's mind on abortion.

Government is the real problem. If they'd get the hell out of the way, this would be a better nation.

^^ SC I don't always agree with you, but that was a pretty good Cliff Notes version of what's up, I must say.
What I would like to know is how ECCIE (a web forum board) could ever be affected by Net Neutrality? I can get to this site via a dial up modem (yes I have one and have an account for it) as well as on a broadband account.

What the OP really needs to read is the Computer Decency Act - particulary part 230 where changes are being proposed to hold legally responsible the OWNERS/OPERATORS of the website for any and all illegal content on their site/server.

In other words, a provider's ad for escorting (illegal act) could get the owner of Eccie arrested.

Right now they are aiming for the human trafficking angle but if worded correctly, it could include escort as, any review posted about a session describing what happened and the fee (since it describes an illegal activity)

As for Net Neutrality it is already being geared up to be appealed again.. I think it was mentioned before but companies like ATT and ComCast ARE content providers, they pay $$$$$$$ for those TV shows they provide. Last thing they want is you getting the cheapest channel package but with a extremely fast internet speed then doing netflix and hulu.

Cord Cutters are the ones that IRK ATT and ComCast, they will get just an Internet connection with no TV or phone then just do the NetFlix Hulu deal.

To give you a price idea... I have ATT Fiber on my UVerse with 3 TV boxes and the UVerse U300 channel package & phone and the bill is well over 200 a month.

My current Internet speed is 50mbit up and down on a fiber connection. (if you can get just the Fiber connection from them their speed tiers are 50/50 100/100 and 1Gibit/1Gbit) with pricing going around 55-60 for the 50Bit, 75-80 for the 100 and 100 for the 1Gbit)

If I bought a Roku device for each TV (assuming they were not SMART TV's and had the programming in them for content provider services) figure 120.00 per Roku.. so there is 360.00 for 3 Tv's but I could ramp up my internet speed to 1 gigabit and spend 100 a month for the 3 TV's, and after 3 months would be saving $$$

3 months at 250 a month (my current bill) 750

3 x 120.00 (for one time purchases of Roku devices) 360
3 x 100 a month for 1 gigabit internet speeds 300
3 month Total for going the "cord cutting route 660 90.00 saving

on current plan I would spend another 250 a month but doing the internet only at 100 I save 150 which gives me a lot of $$ to spend on accounts for NetFlix, Hulu and Amazon Prime.

No, the biggest whiners about wanting these changes are the companies that pump TV shows down the wires or into your Satellite dish antenna to your TV.

A pure internet connection like the ones business accounts use don't give a damn
