I had a very sweet client a couple of years back that would send me Amazon.com gift cards on a regular basis. He's out of the hobby now...

I'd use them to purchase really interesting and unique chess sets that I normally wouldn't have bought, due to their expense and my practicality.

I would much rather have that chess set as a gift. That's a sweet ass chess set and I don't even play chess but it would add a touch of class in your house. So sometimes it's probably better to go with the gift cards and let the lady's pick there own gift.
