The Log Cabin Republicans have existed for years as a subset of the Republican Party. Not long ago, a letter circulated signed by 75 Republicans in support of striking down DOMA. Admittedly, most of those signatures came from people who were former mayors, governors, and what have you, meaning many of them have long since retired from seeking public office. If we were like Europe, and had an electoral process that supported a multi-party system, the Republican Party would be split into at least 2 if not 3 separate parties. The disintegration of the Republican Party proceeds apace. As more R's come out for marriage quality, the more Bible thumpers (who already distrust the party) will give up on politics. I love it.
