I can't speak for the SA mods, but in Austin we are try our best to let the member's moderate themselves. I believe the "Houston Effect" started out in Austin during my first go around as a mod. Some liked it and some didn't. It's nice to see the "Austin Effect" spread.

It will never be a perfect system. Everyone likes to play the Monday morning quarterback when it comes to making board decisions as a mod. I will take less moderation any day over heavy handed moderation.

A debate on social contract theory and civil society may be useful but given the nature of 'what' we 'do' here, some moderation is desirable given the potential consequences. Of course, anyone can avoid any possible issues by avoiding the site all together.
