Taekwando as a self defense is laughable it's more a sport now .
Carkido comes from Hapkido
I was trained a while back by ROK Army Rangers in Hapkido .
I was trained in cane self defense and a have very good walking and self defense cane also trained in the use of a dang bong ( short stick ) but even with all that i prefer a nice snubbie 38

Definitely been thinking of training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu!

I'd like to see a guy get out of an Arm Bar or Americana.

A flare gun would likely start a fire.... Originally Posted by drax1

I agree on the fire ... and might set off the fire system ....

But actually it was a "light" comment. Most I've seen would have to be 10 ga.

I think those little plastic flare guns might explode with a real shell. They have changed the size of those things over the last few years. I think now they are all 25mm.

If any of the ladies want to take martial arts, any style would be great exercise and make you stronger and more agile. Don't take martial arts if you think you will suddenly become Chuck Norris . The reality is that is an ability that comes slowly after years of earnest practice. It's much easier to do when you are young but I have friends that just recieved their first black belts in their 50's.
A cheaper simpler solution for all. Just buy a super soaker water gun from Walmart. Fill it with household bleach and spray it in the eyes of the assailant. ;-)

Problem solved. - I J K

Actually I think this is a pretty cool conversation except for the political sidebar. The real point is do something whether you are a man or a woman. The world we live in is crazy and we are one flat tire away from being mugged , killed or raped. Concealed carry is great but don't think you are done keep getting tactical training so you really know what to do. Martial arts are awesome and worth doing for the exercise and discipline alone. If you try Krav Maga I think it's best real world but that's only an opinion. I also love the don't bring a knife to a gun fight , as in it most things it depends. Who has the knife or gun and how close are they.
