rrousseau was obviously overly sensitive and somewhat paranoid, but he did bring up a valid concern that others here have expressed both publicly and privately.
We have a fairly large set of frequent posters (I won't mention handles, but you all know who they are, just scan the list of thread starters) who are adamant about sharing their vast knowledge and incredible humor with the rest of us, whether we want them to or not.
Us "natives" have learned to ignore the ones who we don't want to listen to, or whose humor (or attempts at humor) we don't find funny. We ignore the personal jabs and the constant unsubstantiated rumors about "he did this" or "she did that".
However, folks new to Austin or visiting Austin aren't privy to all of that and some, like rrousseau, think we are all a bunch of cyberbulling assholes with nothing better to do than to insult and intimidate each other.
The moderating staff is not here to censor discussions or "guide them to some happy place" nor are we beholden to anyone other than the owners. Our job is simply to help you out and enforce the guidelines when they have been broken. If you see something that you feel breaks the rules, RTM it. The button looks like this:
