Mainly because Toronto <100 miles from the Peace bridge is loaded with 100s of SPs in the range of Penthouse, Hustler & Playboy centerfold quality, from all over the world.
Their rates run 200-300 CAD which equates to ~150-235 USD due to our strong Dollar.
If TO is too far a drive, try Niagara Falls Canada 20 minutes from Peace bridge with rates ~50% less than TO.

Here's my three cents.

First, Upstate guys aren't cheap--certainly no cheaper than other guys. Yes, Trinithy's and Ginger's rates are above the going-rate in this area, but we do pay to see $300/hr providers, which includes RocBrittany--a step I happen to be in the process of taking. Also, paying $200 0r $250 for an hour with a provider is not a sign of being cheap. IJS.

That said, it shouldn't matter that a visiting provider charges more than the going-rate. Hell, if she charges $600/hr, it has no impact on my current options. I can still see a variety of my usual providers for BnG, HH, or H fun, all while the visiting provider collects her fees. Everyone's happy.

Of course, as has been pointed out, it's important that the visitors understand the going rate before they get here, so they can avoid any unpleasant surprises in Upstate NY. But Trinity and Ginger Doll seem to have been doing fine figuring things out in their careers. And in the end, it doesn't matter how many guys say "no." It only matters if there enough who say "yes."
