Impeachment

This is a great example of not being able to see the forest for the trees.

An impeachment proceeding is NOT the same as a criminal trial. It is an inherently political action. Guilt does NOT have to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. And there is no jury selection or voir dire. The President is impeached by the members of one political body and removed by the members of another political body.

Although the Chief Justice presides over the proceedings, there is NO legal appeal to the courts. Once voted out, that is the end of it.

I have no doubt that most of Congress will look at the President's words and think "We know exactly what you meant to do. We won't let you off the hook because you tried to weasel word it."

If there is any justice in this world, Pence will get revenge by removing him under the 25th Amendment and Congress will impeach and remove him to make sure he can never do it again.

But time is running out on the 25th Amendment. I don't think they can do it in time to stop him from trying to pardon himself.

And then he should be prosecuted for incitement, tax fraud, and whatever else they can figure out to put him in jail and to financially ruin him.

Let him serve as a warning for future demagogues. Originally Posted by Kinkster90210

I have a good source on this in another post. Maybe this thread. From this site:

He's going to be gone in 10 days anyway. I'd rather not see him impeached because then Republican Congressmen and Senators would have to further go on the record as supporting or opposing Trump. Most of them probably think he's nuts and want him out, but some of their voters still worship Trump so they'd rather not go on the record.

Donald Trump Sr., Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. have all said they're going to vigorously oppose those Republicans who did not support Trump Sr. in overturning the election. If by some minor miracle they still have the ability to make a difference in 2022 and 2024, I'd rather they not know who to oppose.

To my friends on the left, please do not tell me I'm pond scum for this view. I've been shouting Trump's failings from the rooftops in my day-to-day personal life since 2016.

One thing for damn sure is what we have been doing for the last 40 years isn't working well. What is that saying "Keep doing the same thing and expect a different outcome defines insanity"? What is wrong with being progressive? Are we to be doing the same things the same way 50 years from now? Socialism does not equal Communism.
Nancy is the most powerful person in the country right now. If she say impeachment for the 2nd time for this pos...it shall be done. The corrupt orange suckers like cruzys will object though. Wonder what McDonald will do to make America smart again

I think the Trump empire is headed towards bankruptcy - who on earth would do business with them now? - and Trump and sons won't have a pot to piss in. I hope Melania cleans him out in a divorce settlement before he loses it all and she (and Barron) end up with more money than Trumps older kids.
I totally agree kinkster. Baron is another example of collateral damage caught up in the corruption of the trump cartel cult. Maybe his mom will grow a pair and save her child even though she is corrupt as fuck.

I also agree that all republicans should take a stand for corruption or making America smart again. Nancy knows what she is doing
I really don't think Melania is smart enough to be corrupt. She is just a hooker that married for money to get to the USA. She probably was artificially inseminated.

I contemplated sending him a campaign donation about six months ago. Glad I didn't and that will never happen now. I'll be voting for the Libertarian going forward unless the Democrats come up with a candidate like Joe Manchin.

Despite that, I'd rather see Republicans in control than Democrats, because of Democratic Party policies on oil and gas and taxes.

As to Trump taking bankruptcy, I don't think that's going to happen UNLESS he gets wiped out through the court system, through lawsuits and the like. Bloomberg appears to have a reasonably good handle on his assets and liabilities, and from that he looks solvent.

Yes a Reaganite, proud to wear the mantle, although not necessarily a little right of center. More like firmly right of center on economic issues, and firmly left of center on some issues like prostitution, drugs, and criminal justice reform (although more and more Republicans are on the right side of that last one now).

Thanks for the big Tiny. I've gotten tired of reading Tiny in Redhot et al's posts.
