I think your whole quote is spot on and there's no 100% correct answer as to why. It's a multitude of reasons. Some for ego (ie I'm the man!"), others like you, to help the community. And you can pretty much tell by the way it's being presented from the OP what their motive is.

Irrespective of the motive, I think the pics and vids provide a great service, because as you stated, it gives a much better view into the provider and potential experience one will have. Especially because a lot of reviews are over-hyped. Knowledge is power, and the more knowledge one has, the better the decisions they can make - even when it's their small head that's making the call!

Sometimes we say things we later realize wasn't necessary, maybe even hurtful. I did that and corrected the situation by taking down the picture. Yes, she has control of the pics since she posted them, but she has no control of who saves her pics she posts or what they do with them.
