Video Gamers

I have been ensnared by the siren song of VR gaming. I got an Oculus Go and I'm loving it. Some crazy good games on it, but it's not quite as immersive as it could be, with only one controller and no force feedback. Still well worth it in my opinion, but my next acquisition is either going to be an Oculus Rift or HTC Vive (especially since HTC announced this week that their headset is about to start being able to use the entire Oculus library of games and apps).

Oh, and VR porn? Amazing. A game changer!

I actually managed to get about halfway through it the first time, but got distracted by other games. The second and third have been available for free on XBox the last couple months, so I figured I'd give it another shot.

I only got a couple hours into Alien: Isolation, but my girlfriend at the time I first tried it hated scary stuff, so she forbade me from playing it when she was around. Guess I'll have to give it another go if Dead Space doesn't traumatize me too much! Originally Posted by JdeHog

Also tons of video content on Youtube, Hulu, etc, and it's quite an experience to watch even normal videos on it. It makes it seem like something like a 160 inch TV. My real world 85 inch Samsung honestly seems kind of dinky when I switch between them.

I'd say the Oculus Go is more of a casual gaming platform. The deeper games are for the Rift, which is one reason I want it. That and having a controller for each hand, which opens a lot more possibilities for game mechanics.

I forgot how brutal the death scenes in Dead Space are... hell, sometimes they seem like they"re just rubbing it in.

And it's a game that wasn't really even designed as a VR title from the ground up. I can only imagine what purpose-built VR horror games have in store.

Along with my Oculus Go, I've had a PSVR for a while but hadn't used it much. I've recently started and am having a blast with it. It doesn't have quite the screen resolution specs of the Oculus Go, but the immersion factor is higher with a controller in each hand (if you have the Move or Aim controllers). Having "hands" in the game world turns out to be a really big thing for immersiveness, too.

Some favorite games for the PSVR so far:

Blasters of the Universe: VR "bullet hell" shooter
Sparc (like a combination of racquetball and dodgeball, played online against other humans)
Wipeout (rocket car racing)
Knockout League (boxing)
Superhot (kind of indescribable - check out some Youtube vids on it)
Fruit Ninja VR

Some of these games get really physical and will have you panting once you play for a few minutes. Superhot and Fruit Ninja in Zen Mode, especially.

I have been thinking of buying an Oculus Rift but I'm going to wait until next year because Oculus is supposed to be coming out with a new unit (currently called Santa Cruz) that will be freestanding, still with two controllers, and not tethered to the PC. So, like the Oculus Go but more powerful and more immersive - I assume it will still have roomscale capability like the Rift.

The HTC Vive and Vive Pro look interesting too - better specs than the Rift and just recently announced that they will be able to play the entire Rift library in addition to their own. Tempting. But I'll wait and see what the Oculus Santa Cruz has in store before pulling the trigger on any new VR hardware
Finally getting around to playing Red Dead Redemption. How did I go this long without playing it?!
