The Reality of the Trump Economy

I just got off the phone with my advisor at Edward Jones.
Hell yeah, they love Trump over there. I'm a happy camper during this economy versus Obama. Make that ecstatic - yep, that's the right word! Originally Posted by Austin Ellen

In that time, stocks have rallied to records, making him among the most successful Republican presidents when judged by market gains. In fact, the Nasdaq soared 29% since January 2017, marking the tech-centric index’s best rally under a Republican president, according to Dow Jones Market Data.

But a rough 2018 dented Trump’s two-year performance, which for the S&P 500 left him with the 10th best percentage gain of 23 presidents, going back to Herbert Hoover, and the fifth best performance out of 11 Republican presidents, the data show."

Here is a link to a summary chart of the DJIA covering the Obama and Trump years. Obama had one negative year in 8 years. Trump one negative year in 2 years, the negative year being worse than Obama's negative year. In 4 of Obama's years in office the DJIA gains were double digits, the highest being 26.5% which beats Trump's 2017 DJIA gain.

And yes, so far 2019 is off to a very nice start. But 2018 did great until the end so don't hold your breath.

Thanks for explaining that SR.
To be honest - I did not have any money in the stock market under Obama. I was laid off from a lucrative job in property management during the Obama years. In other words - during the Obama years I was basically broke.
Not to worry thou - I have recovered very, very nicely.
Thank you, President Trump.

Glad to hear you are doing well today. So in 2 years you have gone from being broke to being in a fantastic financial position. I know Trump is not responsible for your current "career". I'd love to know the details of your financial rebirth in just 2 years.

The Dow Jones index bottomed out 7 weeks into his first term - on March 9, 2009 at 6547. Thereafter it recovered steadily, with intermittent setbacks, and finished on Election Day November 8, 2016 at 18,332.

Keep in mind that the Dow plummeted by a whopping 34% in calendar 2008, Bush's final year in office. This set it up for a healthy bounce-back under Obama, once the economy stabilized.

So what, he did nothing!!! He was a big nothing on the economy, nothing!!!

I was not against O in The beginning, but he was never worthy of the position!!! Never!
