Well sort of incorrect, yes you can get government assistance under certain circumstances, unable to work, disability that qualifies you and being at the retirement age. But all these things require proof including disability (you have to have had at least been jobless due to your illness for up to one year) not too mention you go through a year or more of denied application. The process is slow for someone who qualifies and needs the assistance.

So, on the other hand you are stating the exact things that entitle someone to be on "the system". Someone who can work as escort is not on the list. They are neither extremely sick and/or disabled and unable to work. That is my point.
And all that thing about escorts being depressive and that is the only job they can do. I had a lot of women telling me the same. But they don`t see that in any regular job you get more support and are automatically less depressive. In escorting you have to be strong and put together. Being a wreck psychologically makes you be careless and make mistakes and also unable to "defend" yourself towards certain claims or needs clients have. We have to see it from that perspective as well. All that barebacking probably would not happen if some people really had their act together.
So at least they should try to get a regular job, because when you are depressed (and i am psychologist) regularity and a clear cut day is the best antidepressant. As is sleep deprivation and psychopharmaka.
Having unstable days, clients every once and a way, does only assist the depression, NOT you. If you act like that you will never get out of the loop.
That said, some people are just too lazy for whatever reason to earn a regular income. You might work "less" as an escort, but the work affects you "psychologically" way more than it does within a regular job. I know that, been there done that. There is no comparison. Plus, the social side of escorting. You are an outsider always having a little secret and a little different timetable than all your friends - no matter how accepting your enviroment. That all is rather supporting depressions than helping it.
