Stupid question, as usual, CBJ7. The amount of benefit Jackie receives from the government comes out of all our taxes, or our children's and grandchildren's taxes, since our government borrows so much. Or through a devalued dollar, if the money is simply printed.

I thought you understood things like this, CBJ7. I had forgotten how deep your inability to comprehend simple concepts goes. Originally Posted by CuteOldGuy

There would be no "civilized" world if it hadn't been for the United States. And now that we are in rapid decline, the "civilized" world will decline with us.

Hello, China! How ya doin'?

Trust me I have had plenty of escorts who were glad to know what they were getting into before the session so my name came in very handy but back to the topic- Olivia I have worked in the health care industry and have close friends on both sides of the aisle- now first things first when you are talking about poor- what is your definition of poor? Obama clearly mention what plans would be available to what population(income) and Romney told a lie that 20 million would lose their insurance because the provision states if you are happy with your insurance keep it, but Oliva I want to first know what your definition of poor is- are you talking about poor people that would not be poor enough to qualify for Medicaid???
Also, I guess based on your logic than Olivia you support Obama on repealing the Bush Tax cuts an raising taxes on the wealthy?
However, I do want to answer your question but I need to know what is your definition of poor from an income standpoint. Originally Posted by wellendowed1911

Obamacare says a family below 400 percent of the federal poverty line is caped at 4 percent and then 9.5 thereafter for one person that earns at least $44,400 (Which is a LOT of people. The medium income in the US in 2012 is $50,000) My P, I, taxes and insurance before riders is $30,000 a year before I eat or turn the lights on.

Take that same person making the $44k in a more reasonable scenario. He would have an apartment for about $1,000 per month. After taxes (28 percent) he'd net $31,968 to spend any way he wanted

$31,968

12,000 - Rent
1,200 - Electricity
$360 - Intermet
$600 - Phone
$4,200 - Car note
$2,600 - Gas
$1,200 - Auto Insurance

Before he eats he has a whopping surplus of $9,808. A disposable, again before food, income of $817 per month. His 9.5 percent cap for insurance is $4,218 which is $81 per week for health insurance which is about $10 less per week than I pay with a $5,000 deductible so that's about riight. Now this rich man is left with $5,590 a YEAR to eat and live on. THAT's my definition of the working poor.

This guys not like you and me. He probably doesn't have rentals that quietly earn him money. He can pick up some OT / get a second job, but he can't increase his income by hustling up some more business.

All the moral outrage the morally superior at this working man not having universal health care is just something to make yourselves feel better. His health care premiums need to be either paid by those of us that can afford it by a 5 percent flat tax or his health car needs to be covered by the State some other way.

How about a family of four. They can make $92,000 before they cap. After taxes (again 28 percent) they have $71,760 and say they live a half hours commute each way so they could live the dream and buy a new $150,000 house.

$71,760
$18,000 - Mortgage
$2,400 - Utilities
$450 - Intermet / Cable
$1,200 - Phone
$8,200 - Car note
$5,200 - Gas
$1,800 - Auto Insurance
$5,200 - Day Care for 2 kids
$5,000 - 401k
Before food this family of four has $24,330 to cover clothes, Christmas, birthdays, lunch money and every other thing you and I spend money on. That's only $468 per week for food and life. Now, let's take your sacred tax out.

$24,330 - $8,740 is $15,590. There you go big guy - there's your compassion. Congrats.

What about the marriage penalty. If two people that marry that are making $30,000 which s 300 percent of the federal poverty limit and they are individually allowed a lower cap, when they marry they are suddenly a 2 person household and 500 percent the FPL. Now they have a 9.5 percent cap.

What about the number of businesses that are going to cut hours to make people part time so they can slough of the cost to the now, part-time employees?

WHERE is this extra money going to come from? We all go without cars like they do in Europe? Can't do that; we live in urban sprawl. Sell our houses and American dream and move int "middle class" projects? Have our nine and eleven year olds become latch key kids and come home to empty homes till their parents get home? WHERE do you propose the working poor cut to support your grand illusions?

THIS ISN'T UNIVERSAL FREE (TO EVERYONE BUT THE TAXPAYER) HEALTHCARE. IT'S AN INSURANCE SCAM THAT OBAMA AND THE DEMOCRATS HAVE RUN ON THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. I can't wait for the sheeple to wake up and realize they aren't getting free health care just another bill or tax.

NOTE: I had to do the numbers from memory on my phone. I'll find the link when I get to my computer.

28% tax?

Geez, you should come to socialised Britain and pay 21% tax (including health care).

[for the morons out there, I say socialised Britain tongue in cheek].

$18K mortgage on a $150K house? That's more than 10%. Who is laughing?

But in general I agree, life is tough.

Certainly taxes come in many forms. Property tax, purchase tax, driving ticket tax, stripper tax,.....
