New Private Forum Proposal

Hopefully THN can move forward with this, at the very least she can push for one part to get it started.

The php software allows for the creation of sub-forums within sub-forums so it is just a matter of sketching it out and then asking for it to be built.

As a caution, keep in mind that the 2 weekly ad forums here, Dallas and Ft Worth, were supposed to be used ONLY for providers who will BE in those areas, NOT for those who are willing to travel for an outcall. That option should be in their showcase or normal ad.

And the short notice thread was abused so much by those who just could not follow basic instructions that it was no longer allowed. And even in the requests right now, someone can be looking for a slender under 25 year old redhead in the Tollway and 121 area and providers of all ages, hair color and sizes who are no where near that location replied!

Meaning that moderation will be needed till those who can't follow the basics are not allowed any longer Originally Posted by LazurusLong

I'm glad to know sub forums are a possibility - this will help a lot. As I am maintaining anonymity, electronic payment was not an option so I am waiting on alternative methods to be complete before I get in and get my hands dirty. Lol

I like your idea of cleaning the short notice on a daily basis. Being that it won't be open to just anyone may help in self-regulation just as has been said by others many times before which is why i am finally doing it.

As i said, it will start with few rules because it will be quite small in comparison to the open forum. Hopefully this gives the opportunity to address problems as needed.

Thanks again for your input LL. I hope you will be in the forum as well.
Answering questions and addressing concerns IS part of my job in getting this implemented right now phildo. Originally Posted by thathottnurse

I'd be interested in the more-civil-discussion aspect.

More, if there's anything in here that will help those of us in Fort Worth find information that's relevant to us (I'm still flogging the horse because I think he has a little life left in him), I'm REALLY interested. Anything I can do toward making that happen, let me know. I have plenty of 9-5 time.

I have not set up or even paid for the forum yet. I sent the payment today. Not sure how soon after that it will be created but since the clock starts ticking as soon as its handed over I'll have it up soon thereafter. I have the basic structure for set up but I have not sent out any invites yet bc its not active but as soon as it is I will send them out immediately.

And when that happens I will probably be blowing up your pm box for input and advice! Lol

I don't want to create something that is already in use. To my knowledge, this would currently be the only private forum of this type. Maybe not the first of its type but the only one like it right now as far as location, fbsm and short notice as well as discussion topics.

By the way, i've been notified that sub forums within a private subforum are not offered. Stickies only. In other words, the subforums inside subforums that LL referred to are not offered on eccie's private forum, but that is fine for me since its just getting started. Maybe once it takes off there will be a need for a more complex structure but for now its fine as is.

So, as originally stated, the location, fbsm and short notice ad threads will be stickied to the top of the forum.

Is it "civil" as long as responding to someone else who started it first? How pointed can criticism of a topic be? Does it take into account who posted it -- i.e., somewhat different standards based on the poster's history?

It's very difficult to define or to apply in a way with which the entire group will concur, unless it's a very small group that never discusses anything about which they have strong and conflicting opinions. Can you define, or apply in ways that will gain consensus, such that you distinguish, say, phildo's comments (other than the last one) in this thread and, say, this comment in another thread http://www.eccie.net/showpost.php?p=...&postcount=136 ? Some will see a clear difference between the two but struggle to define it precisely; some won't see that big of a difference. Perspective, and whose side you're on, is everything.

That's why every online group I've seen that maintains a high degree of civility tends to either be very small or have limited participation. I'm certainly not saying a bigger group can't maintain civility, but it's hard.

The one big advantage you have is that you're not trying to make a profit and your costs will be low (I think). So you can kick people out more readily. Of course, that irritates some people as well.

But the ads by location and short notice availability components don't have the same problem and apparently have strong support.

In any event, good luck.

By the way, kudos for the Potter Stewart reference. Although he was ridiculed for that comment and there was little consensus on what was "obscene," the specific topic being discussed, then or after.

Ouch, Chevalier, well played!

It probably is as much about tone as it is substance. Using myself as an example, I'm likely going to couch a position in much different language here than in the ML, while attempting to convey very similar thoughts. If I know I have to play by different rules because of forum requirements, I can do so.

I suspect that most of the folks that have contributed to this thread are smart enough to know the same, and that just because they didn't play nice on occasion in one forum doesn't mean they won't in another. It's kind of like eccie's owners' original position when they started this site: we are going to start with a clean slate and give everyone an opportunity to be a contributing member, regardless of how you were viewed on aspd. I think that was a wise choice.
