However, hypothetically suppose that Andersen leans toward believing that COVID 19 is the product of gain of function research in the Wuhan lab. What's he going to say? If he and other colleagues piss off the Chinese, then they're potentially cut off from getting any information out of China or working with the Chinese to make the world a safer place.
