It's also 100% true that he was no longer interested in releasing them after he was told that his name is on every fucking page of them.

What you seem to fail to acknowledge is this; most of the newer stuff didnt' come from DOJ, but rather the Epstein Estate. The full load of damning emails that weren't scrubbed. The 'cleaned up version came from DOJ. (doesn't matter which administration had them prior as they likely didn't want to re-wash the whole laundry due to Epstein being dead, and Maxwell being processed. They really can only look bad if people get a view of how sweet the deals were in general. As to the latest drop of a few million files 'recently found'.
