Sometimes... Traveling sucks!

I travel - A LOT! For the most part I enjoy it. But what really stinks, is eating out alone! Who really likes to sit somewhere and enjoy a meal, alone?

Last night I decided that instead of taking food to my room I would sit somewhere and eat and look like a loner. But even then, I brought my mini laptop along so i could chat with those I knew online while I eat so that I didn't feel so alone lol.

Here I am, last night in town, and wanting to go have a nice dinner. But I can't bring myself to do it alone.

Those who travel a lot I think can understand where I am coming from.

For those of you that do travel, what's the best and the worst of the traveling scene?

I saw your "dinner date" special - sorry I couldn't play the host I travel a lot, too. And eating alone sucks. It just feels weird walking into a restaurant and telling the hostess, "Table for 1, please." They lead you to a table and then have to clear the other place settings. You order a glass I'd wine and sit around waiting for it. You order a salad and an entree, then you're waiting - no conversation to pass the time. You eat, but can't say to someone, "This salad is great!" Then you're waiting for the entree. It arrives and you eat in silence. Don't even ask me if I want dessert because I'm bored, full, and dessert is so much fun to share!

I've got tons of reveling horror stories - luggage not arriving on the same plane, hot water not working, little kids banging on the walls. But the worst was some couple in the room next door. It must have been their honeymoon. It was like a porn movie all night long - just no picture, just audio.

Are you in the KC area now? I'll come have dinner with you! I'll even buy!
I think eating alone at the right restaurant at the right time is relaxing.

I remember the scene from Steve Martin's movie "The Lonely Guy" where he goes into a restaurant to eat alone. His trick was to pull out a pad of paper and a pen and make notes on the food as he ate. The restaurant assumed he was a food critic!

Lux,

You haven't always had to eat meals alone in KC. I recall some dipwad took you to lunch a while back. His company may have been poor, but he did take you to Jack Stack

But I do know what you mean. I travel a lot as well and it can suck sitting eating alone.

There have been numerous projects where I have work on the road, since I have gotten older, and my health is not that great with new health conditions. I get quick lunch, and I get food from Walmart for the evening. Because, I can eat more healthier, and be in my sleeping clothes. I do paperwork, chat with friends online, and watch cable TV.
I do it because eating alone all time is depressing..

And Lawrence has TONS of really good places to eat. I usually just cook or order it to go. Sigh.

I actually eat a lot in my hotel room because I'm out running around all day for work and going back out just to eat doesn't sound appealing. Especially ikn really cold weather ;-)

But I've found that when I do go out I sit at the bar to eat. And it's helped me over come my shyness because I'll start out eating alone and strike up good conversation before the night is through. Ok. Maybe ikm not shy...

I got really fat doing that, and I learned to watch what I eat. I would stop at a local grocer when I could, and take the food to the room. I could get apples, and other fruit, and raw vegs. Sometime I would buy a quart of milk for the evening and breakfast. I ate much better. I have lost 50 pounds since I stopped the excess travel routine. Eating out can be hard on your health, if you don't watch what you eat.

JR. I'm there now. My schedule has definitely packed on the lbs. For some reason my clients don't want to eat at salad bars...but I'm working on it.

I usually go to a strip club that serves good food.

But since these are hard to come by, I'll go out and eat at the bar. It's easier to strike up a conversation there.
