Off-topic issue?

Not trying to be confrontational, but it might be helpful to understand why the stringent “off-topic” warnings and points. Same could be said for warnings and points for other things but that’s a little more complicated.
Example: There’s a lighthearted thread in the political forum about whether Kamala Harris is hot or not. Guys just having fun. A mod keeps jumping in with warnings and points for being off-topic.
The question is why? I can see if it’s a confrontational thing but it’s getting to the point where it’s no longer fun to post here.
Maybe we are all missing something…TIA

Appreciate the response. Completely get it for political discussions, but was hoping for a little clarity on lighthearted, non-confrontational threads or friendly sports threads which can sway naturally like any friendly discussion.
On those type of threads….why?
