Apps for texting/calls

I know there have been discussions on this in the past but not sure if there are better options available now.

Tired of paying for two phones. Would like opinions on apps or services that would provide texting to numbers over WiFi.....I would keep the phone but only use it with WiFi

Talkatone. Free, works great. Text, calling and voicemail. All you need is an email address.
