Newbie question: Hotel room, who gets it and who pays?

After lingering on ECCIE for far too long I've decided to pull the trigger and set up a date. We agreed on a time and to get a room. Then the provider asked "should I come to you or are you coming to me?" I'm thrilled to be getting a date as a newbie and wanted to make the date as convenient as possible for her so I offered to get the room. But then I thought maybe she wanted to get the room to have more control over picking the hotel . . .etc.
Am I overthinking this? What is the norm, who usually picks the hotel and who pays?

You're overthinking it. When I ask who should get the room, then it's not a big deal of the guy gets the room. If she wanted more control, like you're assuming, she would have set up the hotel herself without giving the choice.

At least that's how I see it.
