Vices

I don't watch the show Glee however I've been seeing news about Cory Monteith's death (one of the actors). He died from an overdose of heroin and alcohol. Now I know everyone passes judgment in one form or another, I'm no exception. Although my judgment isn't one of "what f'n loser junkie" whenever I see a celebrity die from a drug overdoes my judgment takes the form of the following - you have fame, money, a pretty good looking famous girlfriend (Lea Michele), good friends and family and you throw it all away on drugs. Before I got into the hobby that was my mindset whenever I read about a celebrity dying from an overdose. However now that I've been in the hobby for a few years anytime I have that judgment I automatically stop and say to myself "hey, keep in mind you have your own vice now and it's the hobby world". Now grant it I'm not addicted to the hobby - I'm not spending funds I don't have, I'm not seeing someone every day or every week or multiple providers in one day. I feel I've always had a solid handle on the hobby - once or twice a month or once every other month. If I don't have the funds set aside ahead of time I don't hobby. But I do recognize that it is a vice when you break it down into its rawest form.

So my question to all of you is do you have the same reaction that I do when you pass judgment on someone that has a vice such as drugs, alcohol or even sex? Do you have more sympathy towards them, maybe even empathy?
