"KABUL, Afghanistan — A military helicopter crashed in eastern Afghanistan, killing 31 U.S. special operation troops and seven Afghan commandos, the country's president said Saturday.
The Associated Press has learned that more than 20 Navy SEALs from the unit that killed Osama bin Laden were among those lost in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan.
The operators from SEAL Team Six were flown by a crew of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment. That's according to one current and one former U.S. official. Both spoke on condition of anonymity because families are still being notified of the loss of their loved ones.
One source says the team was thought to include 22 SEALs, three Air Force air controllers, seven Afghan Army troops, a dog and his handler, and a civilian interpreter, plus the helicopter crew.
The sources thought this was the largest single loss of life ever for SEAL Team Six, known as the Naval Special Warfare Development Group."

The news report is spotty. Was this a planned shoot-down based on frequent betrayals of "Our so called Good Afghan's" who The Administration has sunk several fortunes into their training/pay etc...Or did a lone Taliban (I won't use the non-pc term) get a lucky shot off at a target?
Carter cancelled the Neutron Bomb, but I suspect some warheads are stored somewhere. We could use them against Afghanistan and our Bud's Pakistan (who harbored Bin Laden knowing for years) indiscriminately. We could use conventional nukes and turn both Countries into a sea of glass and see how the World at large responds.
We could round up the populations of several villages and shoot them.
all.
War sucks, I've seen worse.Several Friends of mine are on The Wall in DC. This is a tragedy and the families of these men will never recover. Compared to our other Wars the total casualty count for Ops. in Iraq and Afghanistan have been extremely low. I believe 85% have been to non-combat related incidents. Each death tragic and I morn for everyone of these men and women and for those maimed for life.
How many other American casualties occurred in Theater the same day? I don't know. The only reason this even made the Headlines was because of the Unit involved.
Not jumping the Thread but I'd like to see un-censored film of the WTC attack broadcast everyday at Noon.
