Photography locations around NOLA?

I'm heading to NOLA for the weekend to go watch Cowboy Mouth play, looking to do a little photography the day after. I travel there often so I know some of the common places, but can anyone recommend anything different that's not as well known, even to some of the locals.

Bourbon street is always on the menu, and the riverwalk, but maybe somebody can point me in a new direction.

Outdoors, nature type stuff? Or bright colors maybe? Really cool graffiti possibly?

Any suggestions really.

One of the older cemeteries would make a great location. The live oaks in City Park are awesome as well.

uptown...and the garden district is beautiful......Arboretum park is cool......the river road is also cool

So much to choose from, I suppose it depends in what you are looking for. There are swamps, iron fences, steam boats, beautiful oak trees. What do you enjoy photographing? Have you been to Old Metairie?

Forgot about City Park, thanks MetryGuy. Dallas, Isn't Arboretum park in City Park? Can't remember. I probably may have thought about City park, the sign is right there on the way. It's been a while since I've been there, can't say I remember much about. But live oaks are certainly something that has appeal. Cemeteries may be interesting, but not sure how that would work out. Guess its worth a peek since they are not hard to find, and they are huge.

Dallas may have the best answer, river road. Going to research that one a little more, but sounds like what I may be looking for... THANKS to all!

And heidilynnla, I rarely turn down company, but I may be up early Sunday morning for these shoots, sunrise is the golden hour for photography. Just doing this for fun, and to see what I can create. Rarely do I travel to NOLA for anything other than watching the Saints

I love the Oak Trees here! I've taken some great photos just as I walk around. Have fun!

St. Louis Cemetery #1 on Basin St. between St. Louis and Conti. At the edge of the French Quarter so it's close to downtown hotels and the FQ. Older and more run down than most which makes for nice pics. Marie Laveau is supposed to be burried there (there's debate on that). You can't miss the tomb. Look for all the XXX marks on it. Go left when you walk in.

are gone.. in citypark..not like the back in the old days (ya been before right) the back still has the stables (yes we love that) but Audubon park still rocks..uptown didnt get shit comparatively to city park.. BUT the old stables in Audubon ..jacks the old owner .. cant miss him..hes one eyed jack..he may let ya crawl round in there. THEY ROCK.... annie.

Yes, I have been there, and I wondered about the stables, that's why I went there many years ago. Equestrian jumpers, that's one of the reasons I got into photography, it was so cool to watch and capture those graceful girls doing what they do. I started buying photography gear way before the digital age is anywhere near what it is today. I love it.

Marigny/Bywater neighborhood
Little Vietnam (in New Orleans East)
the Lakefront
Riverbend neighborhood

And while it did sustain a lot of damage in the storm/flood, most of the live oaks in City Park are still there...City Park is still gorgeous. I mean, maybe my pre-Katrina memories are somewhat hazy, but I go to the park quite often, and it's still pretty amazing.

Audubon Park, Bayou St John's area on Marconi Drive, of course City Park is a must and garden district!! have fun!
