We now have a dictatorship on our border

BREAKING: Canada's House of Commons votes 185-151 to approve Trudeau's Emergencies Act. They are cutting the Conservative's microphones so people do not hear the outcry.

A reminder that the reason Trudeau can destroy freedom and liberty in Canada is that he has enough supporters who applaud him for doing so. No doubt Democrats in the USA would maintain an “emergency” to persecute Trump supporters if they could. And they’d call it “democracy.”

Should go without saying that Canada is more troubling for us than a faraway Slavic conflict because the mechanisms of tyranny used in Canada are the same as ours. Not only is the government/corporate alliance the same, the rhetoric and rationale is the same.

We are deeply disappointed the government chose to make tonight's vote a matter of confidence.

This morning, we asked the government to revoke the emergency declaration and barring that, to at minimum commit to a free vote in Parliament.

Instead the government made it a confidence matter and we have seen numerous government MPs express both publicly and in confidence to us that they would vote against the emergency declaration if given a chance.

Let's be clear: there is no legal justification for using the emergencies act.

The broad powers the government has granted to police curtail Charter rights across the country.

This risk of abuse is high.

The emergency declaration should be immediately revoked.

It is troubling! Just how far can trudux reach with this emergency powers?
Very troubling he used it to subdue hard working citizens peacefully protesting.
Is he out of hiding now?
So Canada, looking out for the best interests of thier country and shutting down that right wing protest that was damaging their economy and ours should have just been allowed to continue over virus mandates?
So suddenly Canada are the fascists?
Perhaps they just made it convenient for you to have your cake and eat it too!
You can just go north and live happily ever after!
You and your fellow travelers have been trying to that to this country for some time now!
So what are you bitching about? Pack your bags, providence just smiled for you bud!

We know that Canada isn't turning fascist, they are not going to allow they'er brand of right wing fascists assholes to destabilize they're country and economy.
Good for them, put your fucking mask on and get your vaccinations!
What the fuck is wrong with you all, you afraid of needles?
You should see my Vax record from the military, it would make you pale!
You sound like the southern soldiers when asked why they were fighting the North they said "I'm fightin fo mah righs"!
And one of those righs they were fightin fo was to hold thier fellow humans in bondage!
And so!
You consider the right that your so vocal about in this case are apparently your rights to infect your fellow humans with the virus!
Buncha Typhoid Marys!
Some fucking selfish people on the right!
Once again good on Canada!

Turley: Canada Extends Trudeau's Emergency Powers... After The Protest Has Ended

By a vote of 185 to 151, the Canadian Parliament voted to approve Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s motion to invoke the Emergencies Act. The vote is chilling given the fact that the protest has ended and the roads have been cleared. Nevertheless, the Trudeau government still wants to wield the excessive and unnecessary powers claimed under the Act. The vote shows how easily many drift into more and more draconian measures against their political opponents.

As we discussed earlier, Trudeau has never explained why he required such emergency powers to clear the roads and end the protest. Cities and provinces already have ample powers to clear roads and end unlawful protests. That raised concerns that Trudeau was using the protest as a pretext as he attacked those opposing his powers as supporting Nazis.

Since almost half of the House of Commons opposed his powers, it is absurd to demonize critics as those who “stand with people who wave swastikas, they can stand with people who wave the Confederate flag.” Canadian civil liberties groups have opposed Trudeau’s use of these powers. Yet, Trudeau has relied on a largely supportive media in using such powers despite the chilling implications for free speech and associational rights.

Trudeau wants to continue to be able to freeze the accounts of political opponents and give black lists to banks for those who will be tagged under his new powers. There are no meaningful limits on such powers. These same sweeping emergency powers could be used against some of our most celebrated figures and shutdown some of our most revered causes. Under this law, the only thing preventing Trudeau from shutting down movements — even historic movements like the Civil Rights marchers or protests of indigenous peoples — is his affinity for the cause as opposed to the underlying conduct.

Trudeau has pushed to retain these powers while denouncing Cuba for seeking to intimidate those who wish to protest in that country.

The Liberal Party, the NDP and other allies were able to muster 181 votes for this motion. It is an ignoble and troubling moment for civil liberties in Canada. They have embodied the warning of the great civil libertarian Justice Louis Brandeis, who once said that “the greatest dangers to liberty lurk in insidious encroachment by men of zeal, well-meaning but without understanding.”

Trudeau has some 100 police checkpoints all around Ottawa. Police are demanding to know a person's purpose of travel. Trudeau has turned the city into East Berlin.

Ottawa Police have told us that individual police checkpoints have the power to stop any reporters they do not like -- it's up to officer discretion. This was their explanation for why government journalists at Trudeau's CBC state broadcaster were allowed through, but we aren't.

The “secured area” is over twice the size of the protest area. And people could still walk freely during the protest. This will be great for all of the businesses in the “secured area”.

Ottawa is now freezing bank accounts as if the truckers are terrorists.

... Some of 'em are not even real police.

Some of the "storm troopers" are "security guards"
who have been hired-on as police workers.

Seeing as the Canadian news-media has spoken out
"en-masse" against Trudeau's power over-reach,
I'd surely hate to be wanna the security guards
IF the news media accidently "doxes" the names
and addresses of those blokes. ...

just sayin'

In Canada, lawyers are meeting clients in secret, with cell phones left behind, for fear of Trudeau's police storming in to the meetings.

I'm the 71 year old grandmother who was arrested in Ottawa on Saturday. The lawyers I met with yesterday insisted we meet in person in an undisclosed location without my phone. They feared retribution. It was very surreal to me.

And their gov ordered the unfreezing of accounts and is now winding down the emergency powers after Trudeau revokes the act.

Hell of a permanent power grab there by the fascists. Wonder how many hospitalizations occurred in the U.S. from the bunching of panties and extreme hyperventilating awaiting a brownshirt invasion from the north

Thinking that 71 year old woman needed to find a better lawyer
