Use of the word "trick" when talking publicly about your client...

Was just wondering what others thought? Ember used it repeatedly in her posts recently to describe her client... I know that it is a common, well known word but doesn't it seem disrespectful?

Made me cringe every time I read it.. seems derogatory in a way. We're all adults here(for the most part lol) and know what this fantasy world is about but for some reason the word "trick" just doesn't seem right for the setting of an escort board.

Maybe if you're a streetwalker you see "tricks" right? The word seems to portray a lower class of client in my mind. Just like some providers do not want to be compared to "streetwalker" girls... Am I making sense, thoughts anyone??

You are a "client" until you go crazy and act less than respectful.... then you become a "trick".
Excuse me for misusing the two. I do agree with you J.
It is what it is. I heard that word used here, in sc and about everywhere else.

Yeah it is what it is, I try not to use it because it does sound........ not as personal.
But I dont get offended when guys call me a "prostitute or whore" instead of "escort" .....
"Trick" it's just a way to decribe the male... I wouldnt take it personal if anyone ever called you that, some only use that word.

I have never described a client (good or bad) as a "trick". There are some words I find to be ugly and not appealing. That is just my view.

I have referred to them as dates, friends, regulars, or clients. I guess everyone is different.

Well, sniffle.........We are what we are and we ain't going to change......so there.
Well, what about when people use the word, "hooker" or "whore" when describing an escort? It's all the same to me. None of those bother me (I'm sure it does offend some), btw, because yes, it is what it is.
Ok I just repeated lol Just saw that.

I can't say the word whore or hooker to describe a woman I'm about to have fun with because frankly its unsuitable. That just me though.
I would never use *trick* to describe my *friends,* but I have met some jerks and psychos through the years! (lol)
trick seems vulgar, I am not sure it sounds good in any tone of voice. I consider my clients my friends and address them as friends.

I've never liked the term "trick" to describe a hobbyist, just as I was always uncomfortable to call a provider a "hooker," "whore," "prostitute" or whatever else. But like Pepper said, it is what it is. I wouldn't get bent out of shape if a lady referred to me as a trick. There are worse terms she could use; such as "asshole," "prick," and "needle-dick." I hear the latter far too often... :/

As other have said the ladies have been referred to as whores, hookers and the most ridiculous and insulting hooktards. So does anybody cringe when we read those "titles", or are we just used to it and have become desensitized? Or is it just the old double standard, when a single guy sleeps around he is a playboy and revered by men and women, when a lady does the same she is a slut and shunned in public, but chased in secret by guys?

Cringe at the word trick? Nah, see no reason for not calling it what it is if we are going to do it all around.

I agree with Ember, Jezabelle, and Skylar. "Trick" or "john" (unless that's really the gentleman's name) are vulgar, impersonal, impolite, and just plain disrespectful, as are some of the words used to describe us "professional ladies." Can't argue too much with "prostitute" as it is the widely accepted dictionary label, although I prefer the terms "escort," "companion," and "courtesan," as that describes me better. "Playtoy" is okay, too.

The last guy who called me a "whore" got kicked out of bed and asked to leave. You want a whore, go find some $20 streetwalker who'll do you in the back of a car, and stop by the doctor for some Penicillin on the way.
Darter, I think you got it...some of us have had to learn to become desensitized, on a certain level. Providers have to grow *thick skin,* to be able to manage, in the hobby.
