This matters more than partisan bickering

If any of the active reactors are damaged and safeguards fail, this has potentially massive, catastrophic consequences.

I believe 4 of the 6 reactors at this facility are currently active.

This is bad. If they create a nuclear disaster on purpose this war will escalate quickly and we’ll be lucky to live through it.

Sounds like the fighting has temporarily stopped and the Ukranians are trying to fight the fire. Radiation levels are stable.

Sadly if Putin wanted this to escalate into world war III, blowing up those reactors would do it
... And since Putin surely CONTROLS everybody's ENERGY
- who's gonna stop him? ...

So, overnight the Russians took control of the plant and have the civilian workers operating it at gunpoint. The fire is out, and radiation levels remain stable. Primary fire was in an auxiliary building.

It doesn't appear any of the casks holding spent rods were damaged, either. Which is also, always a concern.
... I don't think the plan was to damage it.
Russia just wanted to get control of it.

Of course they wanted control of it, because it would help them "fuel" their push through the country and be a hell of a bargaining chip as they now hold even more of Ukraine's grid hostage

Here's a good rundown of what happened from overnight.

Either way, Putler is trying to start a nuclear war in the most roundabout way imaginable.

We need Russia to do like Japan did at Pearl Harbor. Yes, that is tragic, but then there would be no quarrel with NATO entering the war. But then again, if NATO did rightfully enact article 5, who isn't to say he will go nuclear in retaliation...

Either way, unless someone does the needful with a slug into his head, everything is risky.
On my lunch I watched PBS and it looked like the UN or something, someone representing Russia was literally placing the blame on the reactor issue with Ukrainians... He also said that they are holding their own civilians as hostage.

What utter, fucking, propaganda bullshit if I ever heard in my life. They are fighting in the streets because they have no choice, because a terrorist nuclear country is invading them.

Everyone who wanted to, and is able to, evacuate has already done so. Unfortunately, the only people who are still in cities are those who do not have the means to leave (because they waited too long, or otherwise), and who want to fight.

The equivalent of the US blaming the deaths on the Hiroshima and Nagasaki civilians because 'oh you were in range of the bomb'. Fucking insanity.
