"What happens with a lot of these prostitution issues, is it spurs on sex trafficking. Which is the bigger issue we are talking about here,” said Captain Richard Meulenberg with Tulsa Police.

Police say this type of sting tries to reduce the demand for commercial sex, where they go after so-called Johns, who are willing to pay for sex.

"It's pretty clear cut what had happened here is someone offers services, someone wants to buy those services, but what we are really doing is this demand reduction; we want people to stop doing that, stop soliciting prostitution because it is creating almost an economic flow,” said Meulenberg.

Police say there is a lot of money in the sex trade, and with it comes drugs, guns and violence.
WRONG!!!!

If you want to reduce human trafficking and other negative things associated with prostitution, make it legal and sensibly regulated.

Thanks for sharing.

I'm fairly certain one of them had an ECCIE handle during OK's hey day here. Name/face is familiar from a social time.

Don't recognize either one of them from the hay days. But they are in for a world of "SHIT" now. Its a felony and that is something they are not backing off of anymore. I did not see where they also included the usage of electronic device or internet in the commission of a felony. They got lucky there. That would have been an additional charge and another 5 yrs looking at them in the face. They both can kiss their jobs and retirements good bye and they will have hell getting a decent job in the future with all the background checks done now a days.

This is what they did with "Operation Velvet Fury" its about the money for the state and city and the 15 minutes of fame for the prosecution and the police force. This is typically the time they do it as well.

I never see them going after actual trafficking. They are always going after consenting adults. In all my years I have yet to encounter anyone who was being forced to be a provider. If you ask me they should not be able to impersonate a provider to bust an individual. That's borderline entrapment if you ask me.

If they really want to go after trafficking they should start with the 100 plus Asian shops all over town. But that would be to much work and cost to much money! They opened shops up in the vacated Caucasian shops in less than 30 days after Velvet Fury.

Our judicial system is seriously broken and screwed.
If you are arrested for illegal substances you have a better change of getting a misdemeanor reduction that for solicitation.

This isn't necessarily true. There's factors that play into it. What job did you have? How good is your attorney? Does your job have a union? These things can keep you on your job or get your job back.
Before you ask, "do you know anyone..." the answer is, yes.
Question: Say someone took a sign and displayed it by the road nearby hotels saying "Beware: Possible Police Sting Operations." Staying on the public sidewalk and not going into any business private property, would this be protected free speech? Or possible obstruction?
