Our Mods

I'm sure we all get frustrated with mods at some point and time but in all honesty can you imagine how chaotic this board would be without the mods? And without rules? I am no angel, LOL, I have broke some rules before too because I type before I think! But once I calm down I realize what I did was wrong. I guess I think the mods deserve more credit than they get! It would be a hard job to do lol!

So, thank you mods! I appreciate y'all. And I'm sure many others do as well.

In a perfect world where there were no assholes, we wouldn't need any rules. Since there are assholes in the world, we need a few rules. That's fine. But what you have on ECCIE are not good rules. Good rules are specific. The censorship rules on ECCIE are vague and unevenly applied. It's a lot like a posted speed limit sign that reads, "SPEED LIMIT: TOO FAST". You'd be plenty pissed if you got a ticket because the traffic cop thought you were going 'too fast', but wouldn't bother to explain what 'too fast' was and allowed other motorists to speed on by as fast or faster than you were going. That's why we have speed limit signs that read things like "SPEED LIMIT 70" and limit the power of glorified hall monitors to decide these things.

We're all adults here on the Internet. We should be able to say whatever we want. This is America, right?!? If the forum wants to censor certain words, they can easily do that with a word filter.

I agree with you in principle, Longer.

But the reality is, there are guidelines, rather than rules. Thus open to a Mod's interpretation.

None of us want to see the nuclear stuff...racism, out and out rudeness, underage stuff, to name a few. That's a given.

And I certainly do not advocate a total absentence of Mod actions. Just some reasonableness when using a Mod's discretion in applying the guidelines.

I continue to say....the best Mods do the least Moderating. We all are adults, and yes civil adults will have disagreements...and sometimes even heated ones. And yes, there will be times when a thread goes off course. Big deal...as long as there is no nasty stuff going on.

In the spirit of this thread...sure I thank the Mods for there time and effort. And they are in a position where most of their time, their intervention is going to make someone mad.

However they knew that coming in. Zeroing in on the important stuff is where the Mod job becomes a great asset to this board.

Getting work up about the small stuff....meh!

I don't need to buttkiss anybody silly. I still make the same amount of money whether I do or dont. However, we do live in a world where we require rules, like it or not. And we need guidelines. But people that think they are above these rules/guidelines are usually the ones that feel this way. I hope you have an awesome day!

As far as getting a speeding ticket at night in a snowstorm for going 55 in a 55? It'll never happen because they'll never catch me! Blizzaks FTW!

I understand. My point was that even when there are posted rules, police have discretion to enforce a stricter limit. Mods have the same discretion when it comes to what you can say on the board. They can't have a list of banned words, because too many words are ambiguous or depend on context.

Besides, this is a private forum. They could decide to give everyone points for saying "antelope" and banning anyone who used the word "foghorn" and that is their right.
