Passed away at the age of 92 today.
He was so revered in St. Louis that he has two statues outside Busch Stadium. Widely considered the greatest Cardinals player ever, he was the first person in Cardinals team history to have his number retired.
You know you are from Saint Louis if you've heard of him.
Rest In Peace Sir.

A great man.....every pro athlete of today should take of notice of how Stan handled his life, both public and private. Not one blemish in 92 years. There will never be another one like him!!!!
Very possibly the best lefty hitter in NL history. Never controversial, always happy to sign an autograph. He will be missed.
big Cards fan, too young to ever see him play. Most underated ever. can make a case for him in top 5 ever. Was so underrated that when the fans voted for the best 100 players of all time, the guy who retired with 6 National league records, 7 batting titles, 3 MVP's and a .331 lifetime average had to be added to the team by the commisioner.
