Private Tags

Because of a discussion in a thread about whether a "Registered Member" male account who initiated a thread could read the PRIVATE tagged comments by posters in the thread, I got a bit curious because I have believed that the OP (male or female) could read those type of comments, regardless of Premium Access status, so I searched, and tested the proposition. Here are the results.

It has often been reported by some mods that PRIVATE can be read only by those with Premium Access AND the OP (male or female) of any thread in which a PRIVATE comment is made, while other mods have stated that females can never read PRIVATE comments.

Then I found two posts from an OP male account. Here is one of them = http://www.eccie.net/showpost.php?p=402285&postcoun t=5.

So I tested the proposition of whether a female account could read them when she was the OP, and the result is that she cannot = http://www.eccie.net/showpost.php?p=1051835414&post count=4.

Since guys have reported not being able to see them, and neither can a provider account, then that means PRIVATE tags can only be seen by "male" accounts with PA.

I know many have wondered about this, as have I.

If there is something I have missed, a clarification would be welcome.

Damn dude, you could've saved yourself a hell of a lot of time and energy by just asking me.

Only PA members can view and use private tags. It's never mattered whether they started a thread or posted within one.

Congrats on proving all those mods wrong though! Lmao

The confusion may have been because I seem to recall on ASPD that a thread starter could view things written in BCD tags within their thread....which made for quite an embarrassing moment for those who found that out the hard way.

There are some merits to having it either way actually, but here PA=Private Tags and that's how it's gonna stay.

Actually it was an interesting research project. I found some of the earliest threads where the bugs in the site software were being worked out and there was a lot of speculation based on prior experience of ASPD.
