Fasfa Student loan and my 2009Taxes

Maxxi Roxx's Avatar
I have to provide Fasfa with my 2009 taxes.

Do I have to give them a complete copy of my 2009 taxes? Which I really don't feel comfortable giving all that personal info.

Should my 1040 a be enough or do I need to send them the Schedule C and other private documents?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Hi, Maxxi. I'm not sure this is the best place to get good information to answer your questions. Have you tried getting answers straight from the horse's mouth?

Hi Maxxi,

Absolutely take ShysterJon's advice and check with the source directly to be sure. Just to give you my experience, I went through the FAFSA process in 2009. I was a self-employed IT consultant at the time looking to go to massage therapy school. I submitted all the docs included in my 1040 return printout, including the Schedule C, but nothing "private" like receipts or any of the background details I used to actually calculate my return.

Honestly, I'm not even sure anybody physically looks at it. It seemed to me, they just needed proof of the final numbers so they could determine how much money I was eligible for.

Best of luck and happy new year!

if you have any type of self employment they are going to want your schedule c. i'm not understanding your personal info comment...the loan dept has to have it to issue a loan. you would never need the receipts you saved for tax purposes thou
Only apply through the FAFSA site, do not use any service advertising to help you, you don't need it, just go through the official FAFSA site.

The the $300 bucks and go to a CPA. It's worth if if the IRS decides to come calling a year, two years or three years later. This is the voice of personal experience.

Sweetie all their concerned with is the gross adjusted imcome amount from your 1040. They need to know how much you took home so they can determined how much loan money to give you. If you go to the FAFSA.gov website you can do it over the net and just enter the amount, I've done it every year for the last 5 years. Any questions let me know. You do not have to sent them any forms if you do it on line through the FAFSA.gov website, the adjusted gross income line includes all schedules including schedule c's. I beleive its line 37 but the website will tell you which line to give them the total from. If you google the FAFSA site you will get a bunch of fakes which want to charge you to file it.

I just submitted one earlier this month wrt my daughters upcoming
college entrance this fall. We need to supply the 2009 adjusted
gross income for right now. When you know what your 2010 AGI is,
then you can do a correction to the original application with the new
numbers. I was advised by the high school counselor to go ahead
and submit it with the 2009 figure right now because the bulk of the
monies awarded go to the earliest applications. Hope this helps.

Hi Maxx, Usually when they request your tax return it is because they want to verify your income, like dirty dog said they jsut want to see how much monies to award you.

They run your SS# to get all reports available on you. You have to check "will file" for your 2010 taxes then estimate 2010 or use 2009 and update when your returns are prepared. Better hurry though, a lot of the good scholarships will be gone soon for this year.
if i were you i'd check with fafsa to be 100% sure

They do not want your return it is just easier for you to complete the requirred forms online if you have the forms in front of you at the time. I have had to complete the two times already and will have to do it again in april.
