Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thank you.
Nord. It is nexpensive, easy use, and offers a host of features that include selecting different countries and various security settings.

Proton. A lot of hobbiest use it
I use Nord. I believe they don't keep any server logs, which should block any attempt by govt sources of tracking web useage.....I don't trust US based companies....got Protonmail for email, Swiss based and more secure than yahoo or gmail. Have heard stories about gmail reading emails to set up ads....don't need anybody reading my emails.

When TER got seized by the feds they blocked US customers....I had a subscription there, could access the site using Nord via foreign servers....when I logged in I got blocked. So much for freedom of speech and the press.

These are just some of the things you have to get when you live in an overrated "free" country. These should work until the feds decide to invade another sovereign country.

It depends on what purpose you need a VPN. When using some services, I encountered autobahns. I was identified as a spammer, although I did not do anything illegal, I did not break the rules anywhere. Therefore, try several options. One may not be as effective as one would like.
Very cool.
I just posted a similar comment in another section but a good alternative is to use "Tails" https://tails.boum.org. Your IP is protected, you machine leaves no history/residue and communications are encrypted.

I hopped into this discussion to see if people were recommending any free VPNs. I would discourage from any of the free ones because, like Google/Gmail, it is paid for with ad revenue.

Tails is open source and free. It is updated frequently and used by lots of covert assets who do government stuff, whistle blowing, etc. In many ways it is better than a VPN.

I also use something called a Winston Privacy device. The only thing I am unsure about is that it is made in China. Until I hear otherwise I do this this is a good device. I protect my entire network at home with it and block adware sites, facebook trackers, etc.
