Map & Best Places to Stay in Atlanta

On the Old Board, questions from visitors (Male & Female) often abounded.

Attached is a homemade map that lays out the key areas where most of the providers locate, including some key streets or neighborhoods you will see referenced in ads. Obviously not comprehensive, but I think a good start.

A couple of opening thoughts. I hope some of the locals will chime in & I'll add more as the thread develops:

1) The $$$$ is North of the City & as a result that is where most of the incalls tend to locate.

2) The Airport is South of the City & is a pain in the ass for many customers to visit plus the adjacent area isn't real nice.

3) Buckhead & The Perimeter Mall areas seem to be the most popular for visitors. Upscale hotels. Better dining/nightlife/shopping for downtime.

4) 285 is the beltway that goes around the city. In Atlanta it is referred to as "The Perimeter." "ITP" refers to "Inside the Perimeter"/"OTP" refers to "Outside the Perimeter". Even though "Perimeter" refers to the entire beltway when most people casually refer to the Perimeter they are referring to the northern part.

Well that's a start...

Atl Comedy is right. The Perimeter Area is the Best Alpharetta would be better !!
The best is the Galleria area.

ATL that is a great map that you put together. I'm sure it will be useful for the visitors.
I haven't been back to visit Atlanta since I moved back to Austin 2 years ago. Is the Buckhead area overrun with condos now? Where are most of the business travelers staying - Midtown or Downtown?

I don't have nums on hotel occupancy but Perimeter, Buckhead, Midtown & Downtown are all somewhat self sufficient as far as driving business visitors on any given week. Much of the "business" is spread out with people naturally sleeping near their commerce & the restaurants/nightlife are spread out enough there is something in every area.

Certainly a major convention at the World Congress Center (downtown) will drive occupancy downtown.

I think if I had to take an informal poll, most travelers would rank Buckhead & Midtown 1&2, in either order depending on personal preference but not Downtown. Downtown really kind of sucks for nightlife
