Romney Stuns Crowd With Brilliance!

"The world is not safe," Romney told veterans on Memorial Day.

This bit of shocking news came after the presumptive Republican nominee for President of the United States was introduced by Mensa member, John McCain.

The solution, Romney told the crowd of veterans, is to spend more money on defense. It appears that we have fallen behind in our war quota, and Romney is determined to right that wrong. In fact, it may be necessary to engage Iran, Syria and North Korea in battle if we are going to raise profits for the war racketeers, . . . sorry, uh, I mean, remain safe in this ever more hostile world.

More arms! Less freedom! Ah, ain't it great to be an American!

Seriously, this is the alternative? Really? God help us!

Here's the whole article:

Well, what do you want him to say; time to start pounding those swords into plowshares?

Nothing rallies the GOP base more than promising a strong national defense. Not only is it good politics, but it is smart politics. Romney leads Obama by a whopping 28% of vets in the most recent poll. Obama has been trying to snipe at this obvious Romney stronghold. In politics, it is always a smart play not to take your base for granted thus allowing your opponent to have an opening. Besides, this is Memorial Day. No better day to remind the nation of the dangers our military faces on a daily basis.
The primary purpose of government is the defense and security of the nation.

Say that three times every morning.

Everything else is secondary.

But the tactics to maintain defense and security are multi faceted.

Yes, I have liberal tendencies, but I am not naive.

History of the Quote

This statement was used as a motto on the title page of An Historical Review of the Constitution and Government of Pennsylvania. (1759) which was attributed to Franklin in the edition of 1812, but in a letter of September 27, 1760 to David Hume, he states that he published this book and denies that he wrote it, other than a few remarks that were credited to the Pennsylvania Assembly, in which he served. The phrase itself was first used in a letter from that Assembly dated November 11, 1755 to the Governor of Pennsylvania. An article on the origins of this statement here includes a scan that indicates the original typography of the 1759 document, which uses an archaic form of "s": "Thoſe who would give up Essential Liberty to purchaſe a little Temporary Safety, deſerve neither Liberty nor Safety." Researchers now believe that a fellow diplomat by the name of Richard Jackson is the primary author of the book. With the information thus far available the issue of authorship of the statement is not yet definitely resolved, but the evidence indicates it was very likely Franklin, who in the Poor Richard's Almanack of 1738 is known to have written a similar proverb: "Sell not virtue to purchase wealth, nor Liberty to purchase power."

Many paraphrased variants derived from this saying have arisen and have usually been incorrectly attributed to Franklin: "They that can give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
"Those Who Sacrifice Liberty For Security Deserve Neither."
"He who would trade liberty for some temporary security, deserves neither liberty nor security."
"He who sacrifices freedom for security deserves neither."
"People willing to trade their freedom for temporary security deserve neither and will lose both."
"If we restrict liberty to attain security we will lose them both."
"Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both."
"He who gives up freedom for safety deserves neither."
"Those who would trade in their freedom for their protection deserve neither

Romney is brilliant, but it's hard to top Calvin Coolidge. He was one of Reagan's favorite presidents.

More wisdom from Matt:

What could have been a game changing moment in Mitt Romney’s campaign turned into a horrendous gaffe Tuesday afternoon when the former governor was having lunch with a few of his supporters. Romney was hoping to show America how well he relates to the average working American by having a press recorded lunch at a local pancake house in rural Kentucky where the primary elections were taking place. However, what turned from a nice preplanned lunch with “common-folk conversation” ended up getting off track when one of Romney’s supporters asked him how he was so certain he would win. Romney turned to the man seated on his left and seemingly forgetting the ten plus reporters in the room said, “Well between you and me, we have to think about the reality of the situation. Obama is a popular guy and his supporters are hell-bent in getting him reelected. There is one thing that his campaign seems to keep forgetting over and over, and that is how many Americans can’t stand the guy for an obvious reason. Of course I’ll win, I’m the white guy.”

Ooh, they send you down to war
And when you ask 'em how much should we give
They only answer more, more, more.
