Help,
I am a pizza fan and my favorites are slacking on the north side of town. Any gems that you can point me to that serve New York style pizza?

If New York style is that big floppy slice kind, there is Goomba's (at 410/blanco, 410/bandera, or bandera a bit north of 1604 (the newest one).

I think Grant St. (Vance Jackson/410) is owned by the same folks. Damn, now i am hungry.

(10 miles North of 1604 on 281 North)
and the beer is in big wash tubs full of ice...
Florio's Pizza is really good, authentic...Over by the quarry area behind the HEB...I believe the owners are from Jersey...
Grimaldi's in LaCantera serves NY Style coal oven pizza. They ship in the water from NYC so the dough is the same as that served in the original restaurant in NYC.

is there still one place in downtown called Tano's? or something like that...
i remember back in the day that had a HUUUGE pizza that was about $12 and the toppings were like gigantic chunks of like pepperoni or sausage or whatever...

Fralo's Art of Pizza is awesome. Just past the Dominion in Leon Springs.

Pizza Italia, Thousand Oaks near Jones-Maltsberger.
They deliver or eat in.

for NYC style pizza, Florio's and Grimaldi's are your best bets. Florio's is owned by a family from Jersey and Grimaldi's is one of the very few chains that's worth visiting.

You didn't ask, but I'll add that if you want Naples style pizza, go to Dough at Blanco and 410 or Il Sogno at the Pearl Brewery. (At Il Sogno, the service may be snobby but the food is very good.)

I also concur with Florio's.

Was there within the past month and had a great time.

I'm with Footlong in recommending Goomba's. It's relatively cheap (price wise) and I have yet to have a bad experience!
Goomba's or Grant Street...... both are good, the owners use to be partners but had a dispute and Rick (Goomba's) went his separate way. I only hit up Grant's more often cuz it's closer and not as crowded. Before Rick opened up the Bandera store it would take forever to get a pie there.

This is going back a bit...

Luca's Pizza in Windsor Park Mall. There was no equal while they were there and there has been no equal since.

Goomba's is pretty damn good, though.

Got a pizza at Miss Ellies off of Bitters and 281 and it was good. I want to try Dennis' option as pizza and cold beer works well for me and is close to home.
